The dedication of fanboys knows no bounds, but this Xbox-inspired footwear would test the resolve (and wallet) of even the most dedicated "Xbot." These custom shoes are not officially endorsed by Nike or Microsoft, but despite their unofficial status, the creator has been able to sell the things for a princely sum of $4,000.99.
"I have made shoes with 22k gold and diamonds on them," explains Sole Junkie, the designer of the sneakers. "I look at my creations as functional art ... not just ordinary sneakers."
Functional art, eh? That's a really snazzy term, but was such art worth the $2,500 asking price? Sole Junkie thinks so, and there seemed to be a fair few people with too much money and not enough sense who agreed with him. Thirty bids brought the sneakers up from $2,500 to the $4,000 sale price. Not quite enough to pay off the lawyers that Microsoft is sure to send Sole Junkie's way.
So, how much would you have paid for these pimpin' green kicks, and if you shelled out four grand, would you have ever dared wear them in public?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
lolololol
also, fire. use fire.
You and your bias Sterling...for shame.
He's an idiot, huh?
Sure. And he just made some cash.
i was about to say the same thing.
also, i dont think microsoft has any grounds to sue, since he it is his artistic license to use visuals that he sees in the world (the lawsuit against shepard fairey about the obama hope posters comes to mind). plus the xbox logo is slightly altered, so it is "xbox inspired".
look, i think the sneakers are ugly too, but coming from an art background, he really is in the clear in my opinion. if microsoft had made sneakers, then sure, he might be in trouble, but as of right now, microsoft really has nothing on him.

Also, encrusting the shoe with blood diamonds is kind of a dick move.
I'm not paying 4k for these with an XBOX logo on them.
$4,000 can get you a PS3 w/ like a 500GB hard drive & 1TB external hard drive, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 Elite Game of the Year Bundle, a huge HDTV, and like 20 games for the same price of those shoes.
And Sneakhead with geek tie in is even crazy.
But those shoes are shit.
Really? People believed this? Did the auction have a pic of the things? Looks like someone spilled battery acid on their Nikes and it formed an X on the side and clinged on the swoosh logo. People will buy anything. Why do you think infomercials are always on?
