Lots of grains of salt!
Rumors of the next Microsoft console have been flying around lately, and the latest one is that Rare is working on a mature title for the console. Conker's Worse Fur Day? That's not mature these days. We need some hardcore sh*t, Rare. If this is true, make it raunchy.
More rumors say that other MS-friendly devs are already working on games for this next system. Xbox World magazine says that Lionhead and Turn 10 are also making new things. I won't insult your gaming industry knowledge by listing what I think these next games would be.
We may not have any solid details, but it's almost a given that the next Xbox will come out from behind the curtain barfing forth every franchise sequel you'd expect. It's going to be nasty!
As for the system itself, Eurogamer has heard from multiple industry sources that Microsoft will unveil its next Xbox at E3 2012, with plans for a Christmas 2013 launch.

Nintendo: Good old rock. Nothin' beats that!
Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't trust MS to bring out a day one reliable console. Not after the debacle that was the early 360's.
Plus what are they going to show at E3 2012, are they going to pull a Nintendo and show half the console and maybe one or two games? 2011 is almost up and I just don't see it happening, it's entirely possible but it seems a little out of place considering Microsoft still seem to want to go full steam ahead with that Kinect thing.
There won't be an announcement next year is my prediction, the year after that yes with the console coming out sometime in 2014.
P.S. Do we really need new console people, has anyone not seen RAGE?

What will the PS4 and 720 bring? Why, better graphics than PC, of course!! Newer consoles tend to have better graphics than PC... Then after 3-4 years, better graphx cards are made for PCs, and that's when the next generation of snotty PC Elitists come in and talk about how consoles are gay and PCs are better looking than real life...

i'm also guessing that Forza World will be 720 launch title - openworld Forza game using Forza 4 graphics and physics engines is impossible to make on current gen consoles or even on PC.
Agreed. Happy with my current gen console. I won't be a day one purchaser of any new gen console. Then again, I wasn't this gen.
One day I'm going to have to upgrade my PC. It used to be pretty good for gaming...back in the day.
I really am quite happy with my xbawx, the only reason why I could want a new one is for new franchises to arise. Which is what happens with new console generations, usually. If they make Kinekt a centerpiece of it though, they've lost me and PC gaming is GO!

you're joking right? in the past year or so MS build more than 5 new development studios and striked few deals with second party developers that work on mystery projects.
given the fact that ps4 will be released in 2012/2013 and xbox720 will be released in 2013/2014 it's clear those studios are working on next generation of consoles.
Playground Games, for example is working on openworld Forza game that will use Forza 4 modified engine - considering how good Forza 4 looks and entire tech that's under the hood, no current console or PC could even run openworld game like that with that level of graphics, physics and AI.

The only thing I'd really like to see "fixed" with the current model Xbox is a higher-capacity game media (Blu-ray or something proprietary), but even that isn't necessary... yet.

... After 3-5 years since the new console's launch. Before Crysis 1, the consoles had the best looking games. But, there weren't a lot of PC Elitists then. Now that Crysis 2 is released, and BF3 is coming soon, the number of PC fanboys have greatly increased by a bliion!.... 6 years since the 360 released.
I bought a 360 and was to busy with my PS3 to use it.
I think I'm gunna pass on getting the next XBox.
yeah and it would cost you 4000k $ just to run it which doesn't change a thing when xbox720 will be priced probably at 400-500$.
I think people need to keep they're expectations in check though. If this system is coming out in 2013, than don't expect it to be a this super powerful machine, that will put high end PC games to shame anytime soon, because it won't. We can at best, expect it to be like a high end computer from 2012/13, which is what the 360 was, a high end computer from 2004/5.
So my next console of choice is WiiU. I'll probably buy a PS4 later, but who knows.
Now the correct thing to say is that when consoles launch at around $400-500, they are more powerful than PCs that are in the same price range.
Lionhead still aren't done with their Kinect stuff either.
One would hope they're working on something, the question is whether there is a reason to care.
