Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel drops down to $99 photo

The Xbox 360's best racing peripheral just got a little better. Microsoft has slashed $30 off the Wireless Racing Wheel's price tag, although you can probably get it for even less on eBay. But still, a price drop is a price drop and I'm glad they didn't wait until after Christmas to sweeten the deal.

Slight warning to potential buyers: not all games are compatible with the racing wheel. Here are the ones that will work: Forza Motorsport 2, Project Gotham Racing 3, PGR4, Test Drive Unlimited, Need for Speed Carbon, DiRT, and Nascar 08.

If I wasn't so backlogged with amazing games from the past two months, I'd probably pick up the Wireless Racing Wheel. Then again, I've always been more into the arcade-style racing games rather than the straight up simulators.

From what I have heard about the peripheral itself, a standard Xbox 360 controller is the better way to go when playing arcade racers, while it's a crime to play games like Forza Motorsport 2 without the wheel. Does this sound about right, or was I lied to?

Doesn't this thing produce smoke?

Good deal for those who want it, but the normal controller works just fine for me.

Chee: Only if you're a dumbass with it.

And now I shall finally go get my wheel. After months of waiting, I can finally afford the damn thing.

I'll stick to the normal controller, 99 bucks is still a fucking rip off for a piece of shit like this.

I've had this for a while and I love it. For PGR, yea, you're probably better off with the twitch control offered by a regular controller. But for Forza, I can't imagine going back to using a standard controller. Also works great in TDU. Haven't tried it with any of the other listed titles, though I imagine that it would be great for DiRT as well.

What is this about 5 of those sucking? The only suck I see on there is NFS:C and Nascar 08.

This is actually a good price for what you're getting. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't turn as much as the Logitech wheel did. If you're pretty tech with a game like Forza 2, this could help you out.

Aside from the 2 people who had them smoke up, this is a really good wheel. Please ignore the jaded kids. They bitch about reviews and top ten lists, they complain about price drops as well.

That's pretty sweet. Also it bears mentioning that future racing titles are likely to support it as well, so it's a solid investment if you like racers.

To any folks who have this, is it pretty reliable then? I'm not talking about it smoking or whatever, but just as far as working well for some time. I had heard that it tends to break (go figure), but I wouldn't mind having one.

I just considered getting this, but the moment you mentioned that it's better for sim racers than arcade racers, the only kind of racers I play, I had to decide against it. Shame, because I really need another useless peripheral.

Definitely lied to.

I bought the wheel along with my 360 when FM2 was released and returned the wheel to the store 14 days later.

As I previously owned a Logitech Driving Force Pro and a Logitech G25, which I used to play GT4 on the PS2 and Live for Speed & GTR² on the PC I was let down by the shitty build quality and mediocre force feedback and the lack of 900° of rotation. Another downer were the superlightweight pedals that kept slipping away on my carpet. When I tried to hold them in place with my heels, I ended up with cramps in my calves from the unnatural position I had to put my feet/legs into.

The Logitech Driving Force FX isn't really an alternative in my eyes either, due to the lack of proper Force Feedback. Let's just hope Microsoft allows the G25 to work on the 360 one day, cause that wheel is a definitive must have.

Interesting. I've only owned one wheel before and calling it shitty would be a huge understatement.
