What? I...I can't understand what you're saying.
That will always be a problem with the countless mumble-mouthed kiddies online, but at least their mumbles will sound a bit more clear when Microsoft updates the Xbox 360 later this year.
Coming in line with Kinect's tech, this upgrade will bump up the codec and the audio infrastructure that connects your Xbox 360's chat facilities with another's. Xbox Live Studios' Jerry Johnson said that this should make for clear(er) chat when you play online.
"The codec we used when we first launched was a low bit rate codec and we stuck with that," Johnson said at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival today, reports Eurogamer.
While broadband was required at service launch, it was a 64k connection and the chat service was tailored for that. Johnson notes that most won't think of that low a connection speed as broadband these days.
"It's time for us to move on. Especially if we want to think about broadening - a crackly headset on the top of your head – not what people think of when they talk about popular entertainment."
Nice! We'll take it.

Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Fucking Disco Pony.
They must make a ton of money on their over-priced headsets since they're so fragile.
Now my games will be even more laggy. Can we get an OPTION for this, please? I don't have much bandwidth to spare as it is, and INCREASED voice bandwidth utilization is not helping.
God damn you, Microsoft.
Better quality audio is something I can't complain about!
This is a welcome upgrade, indeed. I love Xbox Live, but damn, voice chat is pretty horrible.
OH, shit! Why have I never though about upgrading to a 22mbps connection until I read your post.
I thought I was stuck with what I have. Oh, I am stuck with it...
22mgbs for your porn habit... hehe...
and to clarify for those that don't know it's fucking AwesomeExMachina. FUCK.
An improvement would be nice but they've got plenty of other issues to resolve and half the time the problems with voice chat are either user error or hardware failure. Although I tend to stick out of party chat and voice chat in public games seem decent enough in my experience
Connectors (2.5 or 3.5) have NOTHING to do with the bandwidth used to transmit voice.
"Voice chat is great on the ps3, don't know how people can use wired headset though, wireless ftw."
I've had a terrible experience getting my Bluetooth headset to work with my PS3, but that's probably because It was free with a digital camera I bought.
Either way, that's actually why I prefer wired to wireless in this situation; just plug the headset into your controller and it works. It's not like you have to plug it into the system or something. Plus it came with the console, so I didn't need to buy an extra accessory just to talk to my friends.
Are you sure that's a headset you're talking into, and not a grenade?
Awesome.
Mine was like.
1) Pair it.
2) Everytime you use it just switch it on and put it on.
And works perfectly. It is the official one though. But it does work with almost any blue tooth headset.
Actually didn't know that the Xbox one plugs into the controller, i'd imagined it to plug into the console and thus be fucking stupid. But if it does plug into the controller, that is, I suppose, a little better.
I like to keep my headset on while I'm smoking (outside) between rounds and keep talking to my group, or to keep it on when I go for a piss and let everyone hear it.
"Whoa dude, that was one long ass piss, suppose it's been a long time since our last break, you been saving that one!" - Actual conversation during a full day of Ad-Hoc Party Monster Hunting.
Not had any real problems w/headsets TBH. If it means that when someone screams like a prat, it doesn't just fuck your speakers up, I'm all for it!
2.5mm is a standard jack. The problem lies with the digitizing of your voice. They used 64K so that it adds very little to the overall in/out traffic. Especially when the upload rates on most ISP's suck ass. (I got 10mb down / 0.5 up).
Frankly I had no problem with the voice quality so this wasn't one of my requested features. I would ask them to look into the stability of Party Chat when there are 8 people talking. In BC2, my party of 8 can not stay in the party for longer than 15 minutes before everyone gets kicked out of it.
Bet the quality on the new sound is still going to be fucking shit
Ah, another elitist. Poorly trolling their way through their seemly abysmal life. You know where the fire is, and what to do in it, as I'm sure you've heard many times before.
