It was the first thing I turned off when I got my xbox all those years ago, so no. I don't want it to boot up my game on startup.
Just because there is a DVD of pornography in the disc tray doesnt mean watching it why I am turning on my 360...
I also don't care, personally. But it was a bit weird they decided to outright disallow people to do it, so I guess it's a good thing it's back.
The option's always been there, but since the new dashboard came along it didn't actually do anything. Good to see someone noticed!

Please... Do not start making regular minor updates like some other consoles. Once or twice a year is great... Once every 6 weeks gets kind of annoying.

I used this for a while when there was only one game I'd play for days (Mass Effect, Tropico 3). After that, it just became kind of annoying. Didn't miss it being gone, but nice that it's back I guess?

Well apparently im the only one, but this makes me happy. Being on Live requires stretching a cord across the room, so I don't need to see anything on my dashboard.
The main thing, though, is that it was blatantly ignoring my "disc on startup" option. Bah!

I'm very much a dashboard / XMB first person, I leave games in the drive for weeks and don't play them if there are downloadable titles to be played so I turn that shit off straight away on any console.
So, yeah.

@bakewell because when I turn on my system it is because I want to do one of three thongs, play a game,Netflix, or WMC. update is not a thing I want to do regularly. If its such a minor thing roll it into the one that adds kinect support to Netflix and avatar kinect. Not "ohh I have an idea lets issue an update".
I'm kinda surprised that almost nobody here cared that option was gone for a while. I usually like to turn on my xbox, then walk away to do something else while the game loads to the start screen. So I'm glad it's back.

Great, so when can we turn off the dashboard spotlight? The only things I want to see on the dashboard are My Xbox and Friends, and occasionally Marketplace. What I don't care about is all the exciting new avatar shit. Boot to disc is great purely for saying "fuck you" to Spotlight.
I'm one of the few who noticed this feature had been disabled. I'm glad the option is back, although I will likely leave it off.

That's cool. Just a friendly word of advice tho, don't buy a ps3 because I hear they need a 3million gb update everytime you turn them on.
Perhaps buy a snes or a megadrive? They never need updating.

Nice to have, but I like to check out what's new on the games marketplace when I turn my 360 on. Plus, the extra couple of seconds blends in pretty well with the rest of the loading times on modern games.
Was this feature being gone affecting retail stores ability to boot demo discs easily? If so, it may have just been done to make them happy.
glad they brought it back. I sometimes just want to hop straight into the game I have in the tray and bypass the barrage of adverts, deals and Inside Xbox videos that I otherwise feel obliged to 'check out'. Its nice sometimes to go old skool with your console and just play the dam game in the tray!
I'll definitely want to turn this back on when Brink/LA Noire/TES V: Skyrim/Mass Effect 3 come out. But I'll want it off when Torchlight/Shadow Complex 2 have just come out. On the other hand as well, if you open and close your disc drive it boots up whatever's in it whether you replaced the game or not so depending on where your box is it's not a big deal. Right now I have it off because I am switching between Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Halo: Reach and Bioshock 2. Generally if I am into a game enough to install it on my hard drive I like to be able to turn off dashboard boot and have a seamless experience. I suppose whenever I get Fallout NV I'll probably do the same.
