Xbox 360 system update available today, really doesn't do anything, we promise photo

At some point today, when you turn on your Xbox 360 and sign into Xbox LIVE, you're going to get prompted to update. But there's no reason to get excited, because it doesn't really do anything. Well, you'll notice.

According to Major Nelson, the Xbox 360 team has released a mandatory system update today that contains code to "prepare for future growth of service." He didn't have to, but Major Nelson makes it clear: "There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features."

So Microsoft are actively preparing for the huge Fall dashboard overhaul, but today you get nothing. Except Braid on Xbox LIVE Arcade; you should be playing that.

Yeah i got kinda excited when i just turned my box on ( Somehow i thought it was the Mii update ).
I feel kinda shifty about this though, like if your doctor injects you with something and then tells you " Oh, it doesnt REALLY do anything.."

I want to play Braid, believe me but my 360 has again flashed lights at me again after being nice for one day and letting me play some Civ.

Cue some crazy people picking apart anything that is different, desperate to become the guy who "broke the real update."

In before two people on the internet say their system got bricked by the update and there's suddenly a huge epidemic of broken 360's.

This is liken update they released months ago and then later said it was to integrate the wireless GHIII guitar.

That said, it worries me that they are coming with a new dashboard and other things, last time they did that they fucked it up for awhile.

is there going to be a way to keep the old dashboard when the new one comes out?

Im actually quite excited for the fall update. No new feel of the dashboard and community games are a very welcome thing

This is why XBL costs money; they actually spend money to research and improve it.
