Xbox 360 not ambitious enough for LittleBigPlanet in its current form photo

As soon as the PlayStation 3 gets itself a big exclusive title, it only seems a matter of time before there is talk of an Xbox 360 version. Final Fantasy XIII had it, Metal Gear Solid 4 continues to deal with it, and now even LittleBigPlanet has been discussed for the 360 by Media Molecule's Alex Evans.

As reported by Eurogamer, the studio boss suggested that LBP could be done on the 360, but not in its current form:

The 360 is an incredibly capable machine, and you could make a user-generated content game on it, no question - just as you could make one on the PS2 or the Mega Drive, or any platform. But because we picked our platform, you go and you use every available bit of space, every little processor cycle.

The design decisions on the PS3 are huge, and I'm sure you realize that having a hard drive on every unit makes a difference. That's another thing - if we didn't have a hard drive on every unit, we'd have to scale back the ambition of what you could save and do.

So yes, you could make this game on the 360, but it'd be a different game.

So there you go. If Sackboy were to ever appear on the Xbox 360, it would be under a most different guise. Apparently the 360 just isn't ambitious enough for LittleBigPlanet. Blu-ray is also a deal-breaker, with Evans claiming that LBP takes up around 40 GB of disc space, mainly thanks to the tutorial content.

Seems like Sony has nothing to fear from Microsoft with LittleBigPlanet.

Couldn't they make the game where it requires the HDD to play?

Also, 40 gbs damn, with most of it because of tutorials? insane.

with Evans claiming that LBP takes up around 40GB of space

Hopefully that is not the install size...

So looking forwards to this game but yeah, worried about how many "cock" levels there are going to be. Bonus points to the first dtoider that makes a dtoid level? Oh... idea for a contest me thinks?

40GB is how much DISC space the game uses on the BluRays.

"40GB is how much DISC space the game uses on the BluRays."

On might want to wonder if that's 40GB because they're disregarding any innovative compression practices. Neo Geo games took up alot of space too . . .

but you know, whatever. They're basically sayin they'd have to port it to 360 and make any number of compromises to do so. Captain Obvious has a posse.

40GB?!?!? WHAT!??!?? Why would they use that much. Seems more like a space management issue than anything. Unless they the game itself is only a fraction of that, and they're shipping like 25+GB of custom content, I don't see how they could use up that much space.

OK, so make sure to put a warning on the back of the game case that a HD is needed. Seems easy enough to me.

This game is the mythical beast that has finally used every last ounce of power for the PS3? Now that is amazing.

It's really only 8GB in size, but they had to repeat the data five times to compensate for the Blu-Ray's slow read speeds.

In other news, the Microsoft-produced Gears of War 2 is only possible on the Microsoft-produced Xbox 360.

Ever heard of data compression. 40GB used mainly for Tutorials? Tutorials on how to make your own "Planet"... sounds a bit stupid to me.

Then again PS3 can't do Online, because most there users are 13 year old kids who own 1mb internet connections. Therefore could barely host a game of Yahoo! Pool.

LittleBigPlanet is published by Sony. Why would this go to the 360?

Sony has Little Big Planet and Microsoft has Banjo K so I guess it's even (sarcasm).

And publisher aside, it still won't show up on the 360. See, this is a user-content game. We all know how user-content goes over with Microsoft.

1080p h.264 AVC (or MPEG-2 would be even more) takes up a lot of GB. probably has like 2-4 hours of vid.

I would love to see LBP come to 360. Only reason I would buy a PS3.

Instead of rehashing the tired compression argument, why not take someone at their word, for once?
