Xbox 360 'N' adapter dated, price at $99.99 by GameStop photo

Microsoft's upcoming Xbox 360 802.11n adapter has been priced and dated by GameStop -- get it on November 3 for $99.99.

This new, faster wireless adapter won't be replacing the current adapter, however. It looks like that older adapter will still be available... but the price hasn't been dropped. Yet. Still $99.99. We can only hope for a price drop, because two antennas is clearly worth more than one antenna, you know what I mean?

Was anyone who needed a wireless network adapter for their 360 waiting on this N model?

Didn't even know this was in development. Probably going to stick with the perfectly adequate one I have, but I wish I knew this was coming. =\

I'll stick with mine as well. I painted it black to match my Elite, and it looks awesome.

Also, I've heard that the old one is getting dropped...to a measly $79.99.

Go on, let's hear the "M$" jokes.

I bought the original Xbox's adapter for $40...

If this N-adapter ever goes on sale for under $70, I'll be hard-pressed not getting it!

Still using my adapter from way way back in the days of the Xbox just before Halo 2 launched. Spent $20 on it. Hasn't failed me yet.

I hate how expensive this shit is. I'm happy just running a cable out to mine, but it really must suck for those who don't have that option.

I have no need for a wi-fi adapter for my 360 yet. But if I do need one I'll look around for a cheaper price then $79

I might actually need one of these, as my home is in the process of being completely wireless. I do agree that it should have been built in, though.

How do these perform? Do they lag you a lot online?

I don't understand. The Wii, the PS3... fuck, even the DS and PSP have wireless. The goddamned iPhone has wireless internet. Why doesn't the Xbox 360? And why do these adapters cost more than a brain transplant? Because Microshaft.

Yeah, my brother just got a wireless ethernet that connects to the router for 40 bucks...

And WTF microsoft?

My DSi has built in router...the wii and PS3 have free online and built in wi-fi

I'll stick with my ethernet cable, thanks. Microsoft's accessory pricing is a joke. I got an $80 120GB HDD from eBay because I refuse to pay $200.

In retrospect, I probably should've actually attempted to run an ethernet cord from my room to the router in the living room BEFORE I got a 360, but... gah. That old DS Wi-Fi USB adaptor that Nintendo put out was only twenty bucks. WHYYYYY D:

Like I said I have one from the heyday but it works great. I would say however useless you have cash to burn to try and find a cheaper adapter. You can find original Xbox ones used or like everyone is saying there may be a price drop on the older ones.

My cousins and I play Halo, WaW, and DOA 4 and it plays greats. However I will say I've noticed that compared to their wired setup downloads can be a little slower on mine depending on size. I dunno how much of that is my adapter and how much is my connection (which for the record is merely acceptable but that's not my adapter's fault, it's just the house).

Nobody buy this! For the love of god, please nobody buy this! You can get much better adapters that work with many different things for much cheaper. This $100 adapter is honestly one of the biggest video game related ripoffs I've every seen, topped only by the 360's memory card prices and the 360's hard drive prices.

So that's $300 for the console, $100 for the wireless adapter, $50 for any online service. Whoever is paying for this stuff doesn't know how screwed over they're getting.

I use a wireless connection and every now and then the connection drops out. If this can pick up the signal better then this might be good for me.

@ Shin Oni - It might be nice to include wi-fi with the hardware, but it's smart to get extra money from consumers wherever you can.

@ kandenkiller - Wireless N signals are much more broad. If you have a wireless N router, you'll get better reception in all parts of your house/building. It's also capable of 300 mbps (IIRC), as opposed to the 50 or so mbps you would get with a wireless G router. Note that you need a wireless N router AND a fast ISP to get that speed. The hardware in this review would be for people who have their 360 in their basement or on a different floor than their router.

...$100 still isn't justified to me though, I just run an ethernet cable from my router. Or you can always run an ethernet cable from a PC / laptop to your Xbox, and just bridge the networks.

The fact the Wii has this and the 360 doesn't is unacceptable. Especially since they are charging for Live.
Either way, running the cord to my 360 provides a more stable connection, but it still is completely retarded.
You'd think with the added built-in memory on the Arcade, motherboard and other changes, they could have slipped a WiFi adapter in there.
This is seriously really, really stupid.

Just use a wireless print server. I got one refurb for around $25 and have both my PS3 and XBOX 360 connected to it. Works like a charm.

It's entirely possible for the Wireless Adapter to exist for the sole purpose of having a significant other. Prior to women getting involved, I too relied on wires. As did my friends.

And guess what guys.

Unless you're running in internet connection of like 56K, your 802.11b wireless adapter is more than capable of handling a wireless connection to Xbox Live with no noticeable lag. It also helps if you get FiOS or cable. And a fully functioning router.

I got mine on sale for $50 back last year, so I didn't feel the full sting, but I do know that women are somehow phobic of wires, and the wireless adapter provides a means to an end.

Also, there are many alternatives to the official one. Bridges, print servers, internet sharing with a wireless PC, or a short direct connection to a nearby router, are all possible.

Heck, I can download 500-600k over my internet connection and still be able to connect to Live to download 1-2GB demos simultaneously at no noticable drop in speeds.

In any case, the new N speed router is there for all the high speed 1080p videos you'll want to rent for $6-7 per film. Lord knows we need as much 1080p rentals on there as possible. That's where the future of HD cinema is. Temporary licensing on low bandwidth 1080p lossy stereo films.

I strongly recommend getting a long network cable instead. I've been dealing firsthand with a lot of packet sequencing and bandwidth issues due to my netcode running over wifi.

How many extra ethernet cables (and splitters, if necessary) can you buy for this price? Probably enough to connect your router to any possible location in your house, and probably to your neighbour's house too.

I can't talk for everyone, but a lack of a free wi-fi has kept me from buying this system. I would probably own one now if it weren't for that, despite having only a couple games I cant play without it. An extra $(100+50t), where t = the number of years I'll be hoping to play online games, on top of the $300 really does make me think twice and its never won against my mind's logic.

On the bright side, my pc is down atm and my ps3 is proving what a value it was. Call me a fanboy lol.

Fuck you, Microsoft.

And, no, you will NOT get faster speeds from going to 802.11n over 802.11g unless your broadband connection is faster than 54mbps.

I am still to this day sick of the price they charge for something that's so incredibly easy and basic to build into any piece of technolody. Hell even smart phones and ipods have built in wifi now. Even the Wii included it for free for miyamoto's sake!!
