When Final Fantasy XIII was announced for the Xbox 360, the usual run of predictable bitchery was had -- "Oh wah, this means the game's going to get delayed," and "Oh wah, this means the quality of the game is going to be brought down," or my personal favorite "SQUARE ENIX ARE TRADERS!"
Final Fantasy XIII producer and "trader" Yoshinori Kitase has gone out of his way to ease the fears of these twelve-year-olds by assuring them that the quality of FFXIII won't suffer on the PS3 thanks to the extreme limitations that we all know the 360 has. You know, those limitations that make every single multiplatform title have N64-era graphics.
"The PS3 version is what is in development right now and the team is looking to specialize it for the PS3 so that the game is maximized," Kitase told OPM Australia. "And then they will port it over to the 360 and fully utilize the capabilities of that console."
So there. Final Fantasy XIII will not, in fact, ruin your life just because it's coming out on the Xbox 360 as well. Of course, the 360 version will still be released on FIFTEEN THOUSAND DISCS ROFL!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
No wonder people kill other people.
I bet they could fit the game on N64 cartridges.
Er, it did get delayed. Until the PS3 version is done.
Just sayin'.
Maybe by a bit, but A) It won't take that long to do a straight port and B) This game has been in production for years and years. A short extra wait is nothing to Wah about.
More storage space does not automatically equal better visuals.
You do realise that the PS3s memory is discreet for both graphics and cpu, and at much higher frequency than the 360s shared memory? You also do realise that more storage space means you can have higher resolution texutres on it. You also also realise that most devlopers use the hard drive space to store textures etc. So yes more storage space can, in some cases, equal better visuals.
if you don't have a PS3, then you'll be thankful it's on the 360.
if you have both, then you can't bitch about what system it's on because you get whatever one you want.
As I said I'm not here to start a fanboy war as i'm not paid my either company to sell their consoles.
I see so many false information spread by people about specs it's laughable. We'll just stop here please.
So he's confirming that the PS3 version will be delayed even after it's finished, while they START to port to the 360 for a simultaneous release. Alternatively, you can say that the 360 version will be delayed till they finish the PS3 version. Either way, we won’t be seeing it till MMXIII.
Or am I reading too much into it?! If that's the case then damn you Squenix traitors, you ruin my life!!!
The only problem is the physical disk media space (8GB vs 50GB) and lack of standard HD on the 360.....we'll have to see how Square works around these limits. The rest of the tech specs on these machines can be argued forever. We'll never know the truth since they are vastly different tech.
Wanna trade? Seven 360's for a PS3? Good deal, no?
