Xbox 360 isn't ruining Final Fantasy, claims Square Enix photo

When Final Fantasy XIII was announced for the Xbox 360, the usual run of predictable bitchery was had -- "Oh wah, this means the game's going to get delayed," and "Oh wah, this means the quality of the game is going to be brought down," or my personal favorite "SQUARE ENIX ARE TRADERS!"

Final Fantasy XIII producer and "trader" Yoshinori Kitase has gone out of his way to ease the fears of these twelve-year-olds by assuring them that the quality of FFXIII won't suffer on the PS3 thanks to the extreme limitations that we all know the 360 has. You know, those limitations that make every single multiplatform title have N64-era graphics.

"The PS3 version is what is in development right now and the team is looking to specialize it for the PS3 so that the game is maximized," Kitase told OPM Australia. "And then they will port it over to the 360 and fully utilize the capabilities of that console."

So there. Final Fantasy XIII will not, in fact, ruin your life just because it's coming out on the Xbox 360 as well. Of course, the 360 version will still be released on FIFTEEN THOUSAND DISCS ROFL!

Jim, they said this before, and we still have comments like this?

No wonder people kill other people.

Its all a conspiracy to get us to love BluRay.
I bet they could fit the game on N64 cartridges.

The 360 version gives you sex. I think that ruins the PS3 version right there.

"Oh wah, this means the game's going to get delayed"...

Er, it did get delayed. Until the PS3 version is done.

Just sayin'.

Maybe by a bit, but A) It won't take that long to do a straight port and B) This game has been in production for years and years. A short extra wait is nothing to Wah about.

The sooner people understand that even if you have a 50gig disk to store textures, you still need to fit them in memory. Of which the ps3 has less than the 360. Or about equal as I don't want to start a fanboy war.

More storage space does not automatically equal better visuals.

@JayTapp:

You do realise that the PS3s memory is discreet for both graphics and cpu, and at much higher frequency than the 360s shared memory? You also do realise that more storage space means you can have higher resolution texutres on it. You also also realise that most devlopers use the hard drive space to store textures etc. So yes more storage space can, in some cases, equal better visuals.

JayTapp: No, but the FF series has a long history of some arguably super hot FMV. Like, hours of it in each game. So I expect the 360 version will either employ standard def video, or real-time rendered cut scenes.

why bitch about it being released on the 360, if you don't want it on the 360 that means you own a PS3 so... buy it on the PS3

if you don't have a PS3, then you'll be thankful it's on the 360.

if you have both, then you can't bitch about what system it's on because you get whatever one you want.

looking at the right of my desk, I see a ps3 dev kit and a 360 dev kit. I have nothing to learn about this on a game blog thank you.

As I said I'm not here to start a fanboy war as i'm not paid my either company to sell their consoles.

I see so many false information spread by people about specs it's laughable. We'll just stop here please.

So he's confirming that the PS3 version will be delayed even after it's finished, while they START to port to the 360 for a simultaneous release. Alternatively, you can say that the 360 version will be delayed till they finish the PS3 version. Either way, we won’t be seeing it till MMXIII.

Or am I reading too much into it?! If that's the case then damn you Squenix traitors, you ruin my life!!!

@Danmartigan - JayTapp could be talking out his butt for all we know. Who cares, there are games on the PS3 that look just as amazing as anything on the 360, so does it really matter anymore?

The only problem is the physical disk media space (8GB vs 50GB) and lack of standard HD on the 360.....we'll have to see how Square works around these limits. The rest of the tech specs on these machines can be argued forever. We'll never know the truth since they are vastly different tech.

again...i don't know one person that cares about changing a disc. I would rather change a disc than do installs. 5 secs vs 20 min install...i'll pick disc change everytime.

Yipes, from the sounds of that quote, it looks like FF13 won't be on the 360 for quite some time after the PS3 release. Could be as much as a year knowing how long it takes Square to port (or even localize) RPGs.

JayTapp: if you have a devkit then you must not understand the specs of the machines, as the specs for both are widely avialable. I must also assume your a developer, a bad one, but one nonetheless.

Well clearly Square-Enix are traders. They traded a 360 port for a couple of money hats, amirite?

yawn, yet to see a Japanese RPG which looks any better than a high res PS2 title anyway. Lost interest. I'll be too busy playing games like Fallout3 to concern myself.

We all know that the 360 is just two Sega Saturns taped together, and the PS3 is comprised of eight N-Gages.

@mechamonkey DAMN thats count'em 4 Hitachi SH2 processors at a blazing 28.6 mhz! I still love my Saturn, I honestly have no defense for how crappy it is, but I love it. Anyone see the original Shen Mue on Saturn. Give it a google. It's interesting stuff.
