Xbox 360 in production until 'one day after the PS3' photo

Shane Kim with the fighting words! The Microsoft game division VP has confidently claimed that his company will continue producing the Xbox 360 until one day after the PlayStation 3 dies. There is something hilarious about putting the Xbox 360 and "long lifespan" into the same sentence, but I'll wait for Microsoft to fall into that one.

Kim had things to say to about both Nintendo and Sony, saying first of Wii Fit: "I can tell you how that conversation goes at Microsoft. They say, 'I don’t think that’s a game,'. But the guy at Nintendo says, 'I don’t care. I’m selling a whole bunch of that stuff.'"

The Microsoft man is also quoted as suggesting that it never pays to bash Nintendo. He clearly has never been a blogger if that's his belief.

It is the perpetual bitchfight between Microsoft and Sony, however, that makes blog headlines, and Kim's suggestion that The 'Soft will continue to make 360s for "one day longer than the lifespan of the PlayStation 3," are strong words indeed.

Words I find very, very difficult to believe. Either way, I will be keeping this story in mind until the day MS ceases production of the Xbox 360. We'll see what's what.

Oh, how I'd love to believe that MS would continue to support the 360 longer than the typical five-year-lifespan of the average console generation.

You know why it doesn't pay to bash Nintendo? Because if you bash them now, then copy them later, you'll look like an ass.

Wouldn;t it be better to keep producing them untill there is less demand? Why are they making Xbox 360's in the first place?

What a brat. I bet he also told Sony that his dad could kick Sony's dad's ass!

god MS is a bag of dicks... if they put the same effort that they put into flapping their jaw into their product- maybe I would get a 360- but considering that everyone I know has had at least one RROD and some with far more (one of my friends has had 4) I am not so impressed

lol yeah, ok microsoft. This coming from the company that abruptly yanked support from xbox heavy the second the 360 came on the scene.

Besides that look at sony's track record with console lifespan. The psx hung on forever and the ps2 is STILL soldiering on (with a little help from the wii being graphically challenged).

Sounds to me like he was just joking around a bit. Personally, I laughed when I heard the news.

In all seriousness, I am interested to see if Microsoft supports the 360 at all once their next system comes out, like Sony did with the PS1 and PS2. We all know they dropped the first Xbox before they even hit the five year mark because there was no way to sell the console at a profit because of the GPU from Nvidia, but if they have a successful console, I'm hoping to see a golden years period similar to the PS2, even though the PS2 sold a lot more units.
