Xbox 360 gets 800 Point Cards, just as everything is 1200 Points now photo

Good old Microsoft. Just as it hiked up the price of most "top tier" XBLA games to 1200 Microsoft Points, it reveals the 800 MS Point card. Yes, that would have been handy six months ago.

The 800 Point card is priced as $9.99, and I suppose it will be handy for Community Games, once Destructoid has found all the good ones for you. Outside of that though, I can only see this as Microsoft giving you a giftwrapped present, only to open it up and find a hairy poo inside. One of those poos squirted out after someone has swallowed a load of bubblegum, so it's slightly off-color and extra stringy.

Seriously though, the fact that most big XBLA games are 1200 Points now is bullsh*t, and something I warned people about when Microsoft tested the waters with Braid and Castle Crashers. The 'Soft knows that it can get away with these charges now, which is why everything is 1200 points.

If you want proof, just looke at Banjo-Kazooie versus Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. An N64 game versus a PSX game. One is 1200 Points on XBLA, one is 800 Points. One is post-Braid, one is pre-Braid. You know damn well that Castlevania would have been 1200 Points in a post-Braid XBLA. And that, my friends, is stringy bubblegum poo.

We in Germany have those for months now. Didn't keep me from buying a 4200 though. Bought Braid off of it. This is definately the only game above 800 that I will get. At least off of XBLA.

Anyway did I mention that Germany also still does not have Community Games?

God dammit Microsoft get your heads out of your asses and release those damn things already.

I'm looking at you Boris Schneider-Johne. You are the goddam product manager for Germany and I definately expect more from you that just being "in my Xbox" about once in a week.

I never feel like I even own anything I buy digitaly..so the cheaper the better. It was hard to pay that much for Castle crashers..but damn worth it..haven't got Braid yet, but probably will soon.

Once the price is close to or above 20 I want something tangible. But whatever, I buy tons of digital stuff on the PS3, 360 and my PC..I'm just impatient. SOTN is so awesome.

But yeah, I have no problem paying $15 for a quality game, like Braid, or Banjo Kazooie, or stillwaitingforapatch Castle Crashers. We all got a deal with 800 point Castlevania SOTN. I think we should hold the rioting until they start trying to charge $15 for Dig Dug, or God forbid, Space Giraffe.

So how long until 1200 point cards? 2 years?

I just wish they hadn't tested the waters with games that were worth the $15 price tag. Now they're going to try to give us crap for that kind of money.

@NihonTiger: You can actually buy 1200pt cards. Just buy the Zune 1200pt gift cards since they use the same MS point system the xbox uses. I've already done this several times.

Actually, the PSX was a 32bit machine while the N64 was 64bit, so really Banjo Kazooie should be twice as much as Castlevania and we're getting a good deal here..

...

Well, that's what i'm going to tell myself anyway when I go to purchase Banjo for the second time on XBLA.. *cries a bit*

the last XBLA title i bought was bionic commando rearmed. but yeah I can't remember if rearmed was above or below the 1000 point marker but its no longer seems worth the plunge to me.

Also I remember when xbla games were 400 points a pop ! 400! And from what I remember we were all being ultra tight bastards back then too. Also the only thing those 800 cards are gonna be good for is DLC which seems to be holding steady for the most part at 800 points, and in somecases worth it.

Sure, Mr. Sterling, but what if you have 400 points and don't want to buy a 1600 point card because you only need a 1200 point game.

Microsoft isn't the only one to blame. Apparently gamers are willing to pay 1200 points for these games. M$ is following what demand dictates.
