Xbox fanatics seem to be obsessed with the idea of a portable Xbox. The other portable game systems out there? Not good enough. Microsoft or bust, I guess they're thinking. Perhaps this concept by Carl Archambeault would fit the bill for them.
Carl calls this the Xbox 1080. It sports a pop-up LCD display that can be retracted into the system for maximum portability. On its face are all the buttons from the controller that you've come to know, plus a few extra for media control and menu functions. The whole idea was to combine the best parts of both the Xbox 360 console and the Zune media player.
Before you get too excited, know that this is just a non-working prototype. Besides, where would the game go? Nevermind that this looks like it would be a bit uncomfortable to hold.
That all being said, I'd take a MS portable if they made one. A little XBLA-only portable could be cool.

Dale, I like your idea of an XBLA portable. Pac-Man CE would be an amazing toilet game.
I'll stick with the DS, thanks. Though if it did play XBLA games, I could see myself buying it. Assuming it wasn't as ugly as this piece of crap.
If Microsoft wants to get into the portable market they should get a third party to do the hardware, like say Logitec. Then Microsoft can focus on IPs for the device and not on red rings.
Connecting all the functionality of the Zune HD to a gaming device would be sweet, make it 3G capable and you've get a PSP Go killer. I don't know what else, but have someone else build it.
Having said that... I think you're on to something, Dale, with the XBLA only handheld. I would get one if it had two little analog nubs and all of the right buttons. Trials HD on the go. YES please.

It's way too soon for MS to get into the handheld business. Nintendo has dominated for so long, and if Sony couldn't do it, there's no way MS will be able to. Not that I won't buy an MS handheld if they make one next year or something, lol.
Speaking of joysticks, WTF are they going to get NeoGeo pocket quality joysticks for portable gaming systems.

Still, mad props to the guy for actually building it, regardless if it works or not. I'm just wondering how it's possible that MS, who we all know loves making money, wouldn't look into this idea. A lot of people want a portable Xbox, so why not?
