XBLA Awards: People really dug Trials HD photo

Over one million of you voted, and now the results for the third annual Xbox LIVE Arcade Awards are in. To make this reveal a little more exciting, try to picture Mr. Destructoid heroically tearing open a massive envelope to unveil the winning games. Got it? Good -- here they are:

  • Best Overall Arcade Game: Trials HD (Microsoft)
  • Best Original Game: Splosion Man (Xbox LIVE Arcade)
  • Best Family Game: Hasbro Family Game Night (Electronic Arts)
  • Best Co-Operative Multiplayer: Battlefield 1943 (Electronic Arts)
  • Best Competitive Multiplayer: Battlefield 1943 (Electronic Arts)
  • Best Solo Game: Shadow Complex (Chair Entertainment/Microsoft Corp.)
  • Best Innovation: Trials HD (Microsoft)
  • Best Graphics: Shadow Complex (Chair Entertainment/Microsoft Corp.)
  • Best Classic/Remake: Banjo-Tooie (Microsoft Game Studios)

Why yes, MGS and EA know a thing or two about putting out a quality digital product on Xbox 360. In a way, I'm kind of surprised that Trials HD nabbed the top honors. Not because it's a bad game or anything -- it's actually quite phenomenal, in my eyes -- but because it's been billed as this underdog of sorts.

Nice going, everyone! Let's hope next year's list is more, uh, diverse.

Of course people dug Trials HD, there were only a handful of games to choose from! Of course it is a wicked awesome game. I would have liked to have had a wider selection of games to choose from.

I thought Trials HD was just the name for a demo of something.

Stupid XBLA award voters. 'Splosion Man is not only the best XBLA game of 2009 but the best exclusive game on the system.

A game I love and hate at the same time. It was tough deciding between this an Spolsion Man. I went with Trials.

Trials HD deserves it although I think I voted for Shadow Complex.

Banjo-Tooie is an absolutely horrible game I just can not stand to play despite loving the original.

Trials HD was made purely to frustrate and piss me off I decided. Splosion man shoulda won as far as I'm concerned.

"Umm... Battlefield 1943 has co-op?"

Sure it does. You cooperate with your team (US or Japan) to capture the points owned by the other team.

"Co-op" doesn't always mean "two-player split-screen".

Also, these votes are pretty much spot-on with my choices. Trials HD was the shit.

"Trials HD was made purely to frustrate and piss me off I decided."

Well, it's made for people that don't get easily frustrated. Personally I love it. It's the best example of oldschool gameplay in a modern game.

So glad Trials HD won. I was sure that Shadow Complex would take it, given the amount of hype it received compared to Trials. They're both great games, to be sure, but Trials HD has more staying power, and everyone loves an underdog. (And everyone hates a homophobic Mormon who gets his books turned into surprisingly fun games.)

Trials HD surprised me. I played it for a little while, and had a blast but got a little sick of it and eventually packed it in. It's the power it had over my friends that amazed me specifically my mates who only really play a handful of games on their 360s. I still have a group of buddies who put in a good few hours a week outdoing each other's score.

Good game, but I'm still confused about how it won 'Most original' being an HD remake and all (even if it is massively improved, the concept is long past being original).

I would have given best co-op to Splosion Man too. Even though I agree it is co-op in many ways, it's a bit cheap giving it to an online shooter.

Trials HD is awesome. I think Worms 2: Armageddon should have been on there too though.

Trials HD was such a waste of 1200 points. I wish it wasn't digital so I could sell it.
