Among the sounds of machine guns and reloading pistols echoing at X10, you'll find one of the original men responsible for taking first person shooters on consoles to the next level.

Quietly sitting and admiring the latest HD build of Perfect Dark on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Ken Lobb -- the creative director for Microsoft Game Studios -- reveals how Rare made some critical errors when launching a "day one" game, and how it's avoiding the same mistakes with Perfect Dark on Xbox 360.

Ken goes down a grocery list of things that they left alone, changed, and perfected for the HD-evolution of this amazing first-person shooter classic. Toss in Robin Beanland, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark Zero development stories, and you're in for quite the video treat!

I didn't watch the video, just noticed the guy's name. Remember the horrible gun named after him in Goldeneye? The Klobb or something like that.

Brought back memories....

Oy.. I feel quite old now. I remember seeing Ken Lobb in the Donkey Kong Country promotional video. I guess 15-16 years really weathers you in this industry.

Haha, I thought the same thing! Really looking forward to revisiting PD though; that was a great game.

I have never played Perfect Dark or Goldeneye (Hey, I was a wee lad at the time, Banjo-kazooie seemed like the best game ever to me)

So I'm looking forward to playing a supposed calssic.

Holy shit, I never knew that. All this time I thought the the Klobb was a real gun... xD

And this is fucking awesome. I seriously can't wait for PDHD. Gimme that over all of the other major releases this year thus far.

I think more was wrong than control in PDZ, but I'm glad they left everything alone for this port.

Pistol Whip was better than the Klobb in goldeneye.

am I the only one that like PDZ? The story and voice acting were shit, but I thought single player was a pretty fun play through, and I had a ton of fun with the multiplayer online.

@ Isaac Bertrand

I would guess a combination Activision(Treyarch did the last Bond game), since they currently own the license; Nintendo, because they published it the N64 game; and maybe even MGM, as they created the original source film. Licensing hell.

@ Rhuno

Good to know I wasn't the only person who remembered those. I'll probably give PDHD a download. I've spent more money on worse games in the past.

It's a licensing issue, basically Nintendo doesn't want the game to be on Xbox.

This video made me.. Jazz In My Pants! And I loved PDZ too, but I guess a lot of that had to do with nostalgia of PD64 and the awesome PDZ soundtrack. Also, multiplayer.

Wait... RARE has NEVER made a good game... well maybe R.C. Pro Am... but that is the anomaly!

@swerraccoon:

Yes you are...

I am glad that at least they are not igorant of this. Then again, the fact that PDZ sucked was so obvious you could notice it with your head shoved up your arse.

Dude, Ken Lobb has the best voice in the world.

Also, Super Mario Brother's Super Show Lou Albano spotted at 1:37

Also you're a pretty dope interviewer dawg. Strong questions, engaging style- lots of fun. Normally I fucking hate videogame journalists.

PDZ wasn't bad, but it just wasn't good. I am excited for PDHD, even though it'll be weird playing perfect dark and being able to tell what it is I'm looking at.

Why all the hate for PDZ?

Beyond the shit story, the game was entertaining enough. I might go back and play it again just because I watched this.

I *hate* shooters where the reticule moves around the screen. Back in the day it was fine for Goldeneye, but that day is long gone.

You'd think Ken would get his facts right when talking about the soundtrack wouldn't you ? Grant Kirkhope wrote the music for Perfect Dark and Dave Clynick wrote the music for Perfect Dark Zero and Robin Beanland as Mr.Lobb says!
