X10: A closer look at Alan Wake Limited Edition, box art photo

So you know when Alan Wake hit store shelves -- May 19. You know what's inside the Limited Edition box, too. But when you go to the store, what should you be looking for?

This stuff, apparently. Microsoft and Remedy have released more detailed images of the game's Limited Edition, which (as advertised) ships in a box that looks like a hardcover novel. It also comes with three discs -- the game, a bonus disc, and the soundtrack. If you ask me, that's just more stuff that can get scratched up.

We also get a look at the game's final box art, which is about as understated as you can get. While I'm getting pretty pumped about the game, I'm not sure how I feel about the packaging. What do you guys think? Hoping there's something a little bit more interesting on the flip-side of the box art sleeve?

I like the idea of it coming in a book. I still don't know if I'll be buying Alan Wake, but that seems like a solid package.

The game gives a vibe that it takes itself to seriously, kinda like Heavy Rain.

I like the boxart, but then again I'm a fag for minimalism. it looks like a movie poster or logo for a TV show or something. you don't see that too often in the video game world.

Oh crap, I just realized the silhouette on the "A" of "WAKE" looks similar to a logo I am just making for a game project. Well it wont be THAT similar anyway. And its a completely different premise.

First Heavy Rain wants to be a movie and now the packaging for Alan Wake literally wants to be a book. Weird. Whats wrong with just being an awesome video game?

Did we really need "A Psychological Action Thriller" plastered on the front?

Max Payne's cover art was more subtle.

The box art is great; the use of the "Wake" is gorgeous. Now only if there weren't that silly tagline on the top. It'll be a shame if the game ends up being ridiculous because it's taking itself so seriously.

That's quite a NOVEL packaging idea...

hur hur hur

But seriously, understated box art is just fine. After the travesty of the Mass Effect 2 box art, I'm very much liking the less-is-more approach.

Isnt Alan a novelist in the game?
From what I have read it sounds like a game that wants to be a tv series.

But this on my MUST BUY list now.

I like the box art, simple and in a way reminscent of a Steven king paperback, which the premise reminds me of. Gamestop needs to take preorders on the LE so I can get it reserved.

I'd hate to fork out $100 for a limited edition and find out the game doesn't deliver. I'll need a demo to decide if it's as epic as it's been hyped to be.

I have to admit, I love the cover art (again, not counting the tagline).

I love how people always complain about how bad cover art is here in the West compared to europe and japan. There the art is always more understated, whereas here in the US we tend to slap stupid, gigantic, ugly images of the game's characters all over the front.

Then we finally get some decently classy art here and people complain it's not flashy enough. Ridiculous.
