Had we not received word of this from Jonathan Mann himself (you probably know him as the
The GameJew and urgently also need to
watch his Mario video) we probably would have thought it was just another funny parody from the folks at G4. Lo and behold, this is the real deal -- the X-Play musical cometh! He writes:
"Xplay: The Musical" airs on Monday Feb. 5th at 8pm on G4. I did the music and lyrics, and I play the part of "Billy". The show itself is the brainchild of Paul Bonnano (a writer on xplay) who also wrote it and directed it. Once my basic tracks were laid down, the sound desinger for Xplay, a guy named Brian Golub, produced the $#%@ out of my songs, and they sound great. Real horns, real strings, real singers -- a first for me. You'll be amazed at how good Adam and Morgan sound. It's a cheese fest for sure, but hot damn if I don't get goose bumps during certain parts. I think (I hope) that people are going to be pleasently surprised."
Hell yes! I love intentionally cheesy video game stuff and this is more than likely going to bring the house down. Can't wait, this is genius in the making. We'll hopefully have a vid of it on the site for those that don't get the channel.
On a sidenote, if you've found yourself singing the GameJew jingle in elevators and in the shower over and over and need to put it on your iPod already, worry not -- I finally have it on mp3 to share with the public. Grab it here.
