X-Blades, an action game set to hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC later this year, has kind of been flying under my radar. I hadn't heard anything about it until this past weekend at the SouthPeak Games booth at NY Comic Con, where they had footage of the game running as part of a looping trailer.

Based on what I can tell, the game follows the adventures of Ayumi, a pistol and blade wielding blonde who thinks it would be a good idea to fight monsters while wearing metal chaps. Watching the gameplay, I was reminded a lot of Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword, perhaps mostly because of Ayumi's flowing blonde locks and exposed mid-riff. (The title may play more closely to Devil May Cry for all we know.)

We were sent some new screenshots today, along with word that the development team has added lots of new objects into the game over the past few weeks. Things like statues and containers are now breakable, and they may reveal power-ups or treasures. Where they got that innovative idea, we may never know.

If you want more information, the game's Web site appears to be chock full of information, which makes me wonder why it's taken so long for X-Blades to get our attention.

At first I thought she was wearing a red bodysuit. Upon further scrutiny of the screenshots though, she is just badly sunburned.

Something about the look bothers me, I don't know what it is though

Also this is going to sell bucketloads of Hentai comics

It's like the level modeler and the character modeler are doing different games.

Characters who are sexualized just to sell games take me right out of the experience. This doesn't really look all that promising.

Clothes are overrated... Also, this game looks great but I can't help but constantly think about GTA IV and nothing but GTA IV.

No prob with the outfit. THe guy from Mark of Kri is partially topless, Kratos paints it, and Conan lets 'em hang out.

Sexiness is fine. Working as intended.

But yeah, this is sure to have plenty of maximum risky fanfic and a vinyl doll already in production.

Uhh, some of those environments look great, but in some of those pictures her character model looks like something from the PS2.

I have to agree that the environments look great, but the character looks completely out of place. In one shot, she looks like a Shadow Madness character photoshopped over a God of War II background.

I get the feeling the character designer was REALLY impressed by cell shaded Link's eyes . . .

Character model looks like crap. Totally uninspired, boring design.
Levels look pretty decent, though.

You know what type of female character I want to play in a game? Kind of along the same lines of male characters, more realistic and not just designed around enlarged features and bare midriffs and juvenile voices. Give me a good action game with Elena Fisher from Uncharted. Or, even better, give me a Victorian steam punk game with a fully clothed and gritty female (not necessarily non-girly, but serious and tough) character who wields steampunk pistols and melee weapons (and never the two combined). That would freaking rock my world.

Heck, give me a damn good steampunk 3rd person action RPG with a solid story and the ability to create my own characters with their own specialized skills. Give me a steampunk Oblivion with third-person perspective similar to Uncharted.

This was made by russians who like anime. Most actual anime and manga characters are more "tastefully" done than this generic character design.

Aside from the sub par name...

The game has all the formulas to make a hit.

At least DOA boob physics are out of the question with this character. :P

Honestly, without any gameplay videos I'm not sold.

i am perfectly fine with using sex to sell a videogame as long as gameplay doesn't suffer for it. I will not judge a game more or less harshly then any other just because it contains a hot chick wearing a g string. I will enjoy looking at her though.

And yeah, DOA volleyball physics are a little much...

I have no problems with a sexy design (whether this one qualifies is another matter) but I do have problems with not being able to see the game under all that fucking bloom.
The selection of shots is a bit better than the first one, which was all bloom all the fucking time.

I am with Diomeneus on this. Who cares if their are sexy anime chicks running around in a game as long as the game is genuinely fun. Why is violence okay to have in droves and sex is not? As long as the elements fit the picture that the game is going for, its fine by me. Example - bikini clad splicers in Bioshock wouldn't have really fit the setting and feel that game was going for... ya see what I mean?

You haven't heard of X-Blades because it's a new name for Oniblade, a Russian game that's been in development for a while. http://www.oniblade.ru/

I though this had something to do with 360's media blades or someting.

I was getting ready to take this game seriously until I clicked on that link and heard the music kick in.

I've got a thing for simplistic action games as you can tell, so I'm pretty interested. First I've heard of this one, but now I am gonna keep an eye on it.

And an eye on ... her.

Looks interesting... But I agree with some of the above comments. The semi-realistic environments in combination with the cartoon looking character is a bit weird. But I'm a sucker for hack and slash adventure games. If it's good I'll at least check it out more than once.

I love action games with interesting combat that actually challenge me and don't fall back on to "interactive" cut scenes and automatically play themselves by pressing the attack button (God of War, fucking hate that game) but Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry are alright by me. Another one on the list is fine too.

I agree with what a lot of other people said - the character design doesn't match the levels. It looks weird.

And personally, if I were going on an adventure, I sure as hell wouldn't do it wearing a thong.
