Former WWE World Champion Randy Orton has called for more violence in games, backing up the industry and deriding its scaremongers.
"Violence sells. I want to see more violence in games - the more blood the better," declared the self-styled Legend Killer. Orton feels that videogames are the least of parents' worries, especially since most of them don't know that their kids watch South Park.
Orton also compared games to movies, stating:"The violence [in Goodfellas] is against human beings. There's rape in movies - you see all kinds of f***ed up s*** on film." He believes GTA to be "like a cartoon" in comparison to some of the stuff that you see committed to celluloid. Throwing in some anecdotal evidence, he argues that playing Mortal Kombat as a child, then pretending to hit people as an adult, has done him no harm.
Professional wrestling has to deal with its own critics in the press. The hysteria following the Chris Benoit incident led to news outlets assassinating the profession, and WWE has had its fair shame of blame for the corruption of America's youth. Orton is righteous in his ways, even if he does look like a sex criminal.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
We get a guy in pants called Randy.
This doesn't bode well for my already low self-esteem, y'know.
The guy has been suspended like a half-dozen times, for things like substance abuse and sexual harassment. He's a spoiled 3rd generation guy who's only gotten to where he is because of who his father and grandfather are.
And yes, he once pooped in one of the WEE Divas' handbags because she rejected his advances.
I don't see why some gamers are so worried about gaining the approval of closed minded sheep and sensationalist reporters. They don't seem to realize that whether it be Randy Orton or some people who "matter," these people won't change their stance until it's the accepted idea amongst just about everyone. As far as the regulations, laws, etc. I don't see such a big problem there either, video gaming is essentially going through the same thing movies and music went through. It'll get better with time, and not primarily because of the "representatives" in the public eye, but because of the growing number of gamers around the world. I'd honestly be surprised if in a few decades the "who doesn't like movies/music?" situation will also begin to include movies.
I wanna kick him squah in the nuts.
I can't help but feel you must be just a little bit mad if you can't see what I'm saying. It's really difficult for me to sum up because there's so many, many, MANY points for me to defend now that you've challenged them.
The industry will probably turn out fine, of course it will unless something mad happens. This isn't the problem. The problem is that it will either turn out fine because rational, intelligent logic will overrule fervoured fearmongering, or because all the wrong and stupid people will die out. Explaining the reasons why the former is the better option should be needless. I will gladly if you want me to, but it takes a lot of energy and time that I don't want to invest unnecessarily.
But that isn't the extent of the problem. There is also the fact that the current attitude tends towards people being told what to think. This isn't all bad or all good - so long as 1) what is being said is the truth OR 2) there is some form of counter-argument to what they hear then nothing too dishonest is likely to happen. But if people hear just one point of view, over and over again, with nothing to challenge it, from all the most influential and meaningful authorities, it just can't go well. Pardon Godwin's law but that's how the Nazi party got going. And the sheep, as you call them, just happen to be the ones raising the next generation. While I would still treat this guys opinion as valid, regardless of the fact that I think he looks like a complete wanker, other people won't.
Honestly, I'm beginning to confuse myself. I'm just getting tangled up in all the many different aspect that there are to this argument. Ultimately, I just resent the fact that the scales are so unbalanced, that our camp is so full of thoroughbred drooling morons and people who do nothing to support the delicate, intelligent arguments that the rest of us concoct, while the people who I consider to be mostly wrong get nothing to challenge them at all.
Good job Orton!
If you've ever heard him bumble through a simple promo on TV then you know what I mean.
He's only good at being hated, and that's not because he's a good heel. It's because he just sucks so damn much.
LOL
Also, the irony of his newborn daughter poopin' so damn much makes me laugh at the Son of Man.
