WTF is this contest concludes, a new FNF tournament looms photo

Congratulations to Dtoid_Nosmo for participating in this thing and also to Adam J Who and Christina Winterburn, the final winners of our WTF Is This Sh*t contest. We're pausing the WTF contest because, quite frankly, we're running out of shelf space! CEO cat requires adequate perching room to oversee Destructoid's editorial operations. Don't be mislead -- he sleeps with one eye open.

In other news, do you see that sexy header pic?  It's real and its coming -- Destructoid is bringing back our Friday Night Fights tournament (remember the last one?) later this Summer and have all kinds of big prizes in store for you.  In addition to random participation prizes for online web games (thanks Nitrome!) we'll also be hosting some online ladder matches, pitting Dtoiders head-to-dead in deathmatch battles. We'll also have a full online stats system so everyone can marvel at your towering e-peen when you win. It should be good times and we're working so that at most of the contest will be open to our Dtoiders overseas, underwater, etc.

Question is, what are your favorite head-to-head *PC* games? We're thinking along the lines of CounterStrike, Starcraft, Left 4 Dead, Warcraft III, Team Fortress 2, Quake, Call of Duty, FIFA, and Pong.  Well, maybe not Pong. Street Fighter IV is due for the PC on July 7th, so we might do that as well. Please let us know which games you'd like to see appear in out tournament by dropping us a comment below!

I'm going with Team Fortress 2. RTS takes a lot of time and honestly, I am not that great at it. Dawn of War was fun, though I have never played it multi-player. Quake 3 was fun. Counter Strike is boring.

A winner is me?! Who do I need to email about said prizes? Also Counter Strike and Starcraft are still some of my favorite PC games to play multiplayer.

Hrmmm.

Why do I feel like a more organised version of Friday Night Fights will be a disaster. We'll have to see.

Perhaps I'm being pessimistic.

Dystopia. A steam Mod, comparable to TF2. You should take a look.

Oh snap, the Scorecard can be customised and added to Facebook and you can get active emails! Also, the tabbed system (viewable in that screenshot and on the blogs) is much better than the red bar on the main page currently.

That better be original Quake... or maybe Mission Pack 2.

Not big into PC gaming. I'd guess Left 4 Dead would be a big one.

TF2, Science and Industry or PVK2.

Definately consider Pirates Vikings and Knights 2. Pirates FTW!

It's probably pretty obvious what I like to play...

The answer is Planetside btw. Oh and also TF2 ;P. I'm just happy for anything that'll promote some more PC gaming though...

And I guess everyone can do Quake with that Quake Live bit, though I've never checked if it lets you setup games with friends and all that. I always liked UT moar anyways. No comment on RTS games =X.

I'd say stick with popular FPS action. Games like Team Fortress 2, Counterstrike, Half Life 2 Deathmatch (underappreciated), Call of Duty, Unreal Tournament 3. I don't like Left 4 Dead for tournaments because of the unpredictability (although I think it isn't as bad as it once was). The main thing is to think about games that most people will own and are pretty accessible. FPS skills are pretty transferrable, no matter which one you play, the core mechanics share a great deal.

RTS games aren't really good for a competition because there is a much larger gap between newer and more experienced players. An experienced Starcraft player would just walk all over less experienced players effortlessly.

I think you could make some interesting bonus rounds with challenges like building the highest tower in World of Goo with a fixed number of Goo Balls.

I'd turn on my PC for some L4D.

Also, thats not what the site looks like now, im so confused as to which design is coming soon. That one or the one that we got a sneak peak at last night?

As your PC Gaming God adviser niero I suggest you go with a game like Quake (possibly through Quake Live since everyone can access it -however setup may be something left to be desired, plus its beta status might not be good to hold a competition in :P), Half-Life Death Match (either hl1 or hl2) or one of the UT Games, reason I suggest these games is because of their death match set up. You can easily create a ladder system and boil it down to a 1v1 winner.

Users can acquire HLDM / HL2DM for $5-$10, same goes with Quake 1 & 2, Quake 3 goes for about $20 currently on steam. UT99 is going for about $10, UT2k4 for $15, and UT3 for $20.

Keep in mind that the older the game, the more people are most likely to take part in due to very little system requirements. Hell you could even go so far as to have a Doom II deathmatch competition with skulltag for doom 2 ;D.

Do you have a racing game for the PC we can duel to the death in? Because this seems like a good chance to finally get around to doing that :3

Can you embed iSketch into Dtoid? I say this because a FNF iSketch would be awesome, it's been ages since I joined in with fellow Dtoiders in one (seriously it's been like two years).

Quake 3, UT, L4D, TF2, Demigod, Multiwinia, Audiosurf (okay, that one's not quite head-to-head).

Aw, guess that's what I get for humming and hawing about sending a box full of random crap. :(

As for FNF tournament games... I'd say L4D, TF2, and Demigod (buy it!!!) for PC, and for 360... I guess SFIV, Bomberman Online, and Uno (yeah... I said Uno :P).

I've never really participated in any gaming with people from Dtoid for whatever reason... even though i play all the games you guys do on a regular basis, as well as being in the community for almost 2 years (maybe even more). So I see no reason why I haven't been more involved.

I'd love to see Tf2 for this tournament, because I pretty much play every single day. plus i would wreak everyone :P. (probably not)

Sweet. My personal preferences are basically anything on Steam; Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike (1.6, keep that source trash out of here), Team Fortress 2, hell, we could even run a little HL2 Death Match for old time's sake.

I think Unreal Tournament is a good idea. We may add a few bonus games in there just for fun.
