Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced today that they will be publishing the Speed Racer videogame, based on the upcoming film written and directed by the Wachowski brothers. Developed by the New Zealand-based Sidhe Interactive (GripShift PSP/PS3, Jackass: The Game, Barbie's Sparkling Ice Show), the Wii and Nintendo DS versions will be available when the film hits theaters, and a PlayStation 2 version of the title will be available alongside the DVD release.
According to the Warner Bros. press release, "the car-fu style of action within the game will closely represent the action being designed by the Wachowski brothers for the film itself." Whatever the hell that means. The brothers are working closely with Sidhe to provide assets and direction, which means ... squat. You guys played those Matrix games Shiny made, right?
More importantly, what hole was I in when this movie was announced, and why didn't anyone consult me before this film got the green light? Because the answer surely would have been "no." It stars Matthew Fox as Racer X for Pete's sake! I'm not entirely sure this was necessary, but it looks like we have no choice -- the film will be in theaters on May 9, 2008.
