In a posting at the official World of Warcraft forum, Blizzard has stated that the latest expansion to their MMO monstrosity will not be shipping on CD. The main game and Burning Crusade expansions had previously been released on the format, with DVD versions available in the Collector's Editions.
Going forward, it seems that the only options for players who have yet to make the move to a DVD-ROM are to either upgrade their computer or make a purchase of the digitally distributed version from Blizzard's online store. The latter option may be a grim one for addicted WoW fans, as the last expansion did not arrive in digital format for weeks after release.
It's hard to imagine that anybody out there is still using a CD-ROM. I suppose it's possible, especially when talking about an audience the size of this one with a good chunk of players who play nothing but WoW. Time to move into the 21st century, people.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Time to upgrade to the new Tampax DVD drive you deserve it!
You mean late 90s
"PLEASE INSERT DISK #11" @.@;
Because CDs blow.
My god damn P3 733 Mhz computer had a DVD drive about 8 years ago. 20x burners are cheap as hell. Upgrade already.
and I have seen a lot of sucky walmart and best buy specials people are trying to play games on.
If you do not have a DVD drive you should be banned from PC games for your lameness and you should go buy a Wii and only play wii sports and brain training on it, or one of those xbox 350 things and only play Halo 3.
since you make PC game players everywhere look bad we don't want you.
Hawt, your friend doesn't count, he's clearly just an idiot.
The post by Blizzard isn't worth the webspace it uses tbh.
In other news, upgrade to DVD if you want to play the game, yadda yadda, it's only $20, etc., etc.
