Wrath of the Lich King level cap reached in 27 hours

Wrath of the Lich King level cap reached in 27 hours photo
     PC

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: World of Warcraft people are scary. They are like machines. They cannot be reasoned with, they cannot be bargained with, and in extreme cases, they cannot be dragged away from a PC until they are nothing but dust and bones.

Such is the case with WoW expansion Wrath of the Lich King, with the latest level cap being reached just 27 hours after launch. The cap was raised to 80 with the launch of Lich King, and WoW player "Nymh" has already done the necessary grinding and maximized his character.

It is my theory that the average Warcraft player is not, in fact, human, but an evolved form of ant that has gained a humanoid appearance and a rudimentary self-awareness. The zealous dedication to monotonous grinding that Warcraft demands could only be undertaken by something akin to a social insect, perhaps under the partial guidance of an overseeing hive mind.

We shall investigate this new ant theory with journalism as soon as we're done leveling up our wizards.

Actually, someone else would have done it even faster, but he was exploiting a glitch to do so. The GMs banned him right before he dinged 80, allowing Nymh to overtake him. At least this guy did it legit, someone else tried to cheat in the race to 80.

Believe it or not, there's a WoW player even more pathetic than Nymh.

I agree that they cannot be human... think of what would happen if they applied that focus to something constructive!

or even scarier what about something DEstructive?! People everywhere would be killed for their loot, assuming the WoW geek's sneak skill is high enough that is... otherwise they would have the shit beat out of their sheltered, malnourished bodies :D

Eh, how do we know it's one person? In Diablo 2, multiple people would play the same account just to reach the tops of the ladders first, it's possible that a clan or something did that here.

Hardly surprising, Blizz introduced "Achievements", the biggest ones being get to level 80 first, max skills first etc. And plenty of people are stupid enough to aim for them.

I don't play this - don't even understand it - but I had to stand in line with my gf for the midnight launch.

The dude in front of us had a laptop with what I could only guess was some kind of mobile internet because I don't think there was a hotspot nearby. Either way, he was so into playing that he couldn't even set aside 30 minutes to wait in line.

Made me wonder what he did during the installation. Does he have 2 computers so that he can play on one while the other is installing?

I saw another guy who had 5 copies stacked in his arms as he walked out. "Picked it up for some friends, that's nice." I said. "Nope," he replied. "I just have that many toons." My girlfriend explained it to me. That meant he had 5 different accounts with so many characters per account. Just calculating the pure cost of it, I was floored.

Needless to say, I felt like less of a nerd that day. It was nice but a little sad too.

Having played the game I'm not that surprised. There was a level 70 a day after Burning Crusade launched, maybe sooner, so it really shouldn't be any different here. But I agree with Jim, there are people that play this game way to damn much.

I tried looking for the profile in the armory, I can't find it :(.

I searched for the guild name in the server, the player name all around, and just random names from the picture posted above, the highest lvl I found was 72 :(.

I just got my first lvl 60 though :D.

I think everyone who plays WoW needs to get a life. I've seen what it has done to people and it is pretty sad.

It's a shit game anyway, I don't understand why people like it. Oh well it's there for you losers who want to wither away on your computer chairs.

Every now and then I think about trying WoW. Luckily, my friends and/or my wife are always there to pre-emptively insult me for being a WoW nerd, and I never go through with it.

a)I enjoy playing other games too much to let one game overtake me like that and

b)I could see myself getting way too into it. And if I don't, it seems pointless. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of people who only play 2-3 hours per week, after all.

Zomg someone hit the level cap, lets all hate on the entire wow community.

I wont play WoW because someone plays the game a lot!

What kind of logic is this. An MMO is a god damned video game like the rest of them that get undeserved hate.

They probably did it the same way as with TBC: they made a raid and killed a lot of shit with one guy tagging it.

@ Tino-

It's pretty solid logic. Myself (and many others) avoid the game because they aren't interested in an experience that requires such a time commitment to be truly enjoyed or that regularly convinces people to completely forget about the real world. On top of the fact that I'm not down with monthly subscription fees, and I would rather spend all that time playing many different games.
