World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was released on November 13, and not only has someone reached the level cap, but one kid has already managed to make himself sick over it.
A 15-year-old gamer from Sweden needed the help of rescue services after a heavy Lich King session caused him to go into convulsions. It is believed that a lack of food and sleep deprivation caused the boy's downfall.
"They played all day and all night. Maybe they got a few hours of sleep," claims the teenager's father. "They ate a little food and breakfast at their computers. [When the boy went into convulsions] we were terrified and called rescue services ..."
Extreme Warcraft players never cease to amaze me. Whether you applaud their determination or view them as the furries of the videogame world, one thing's for certain ... they may very well be indestructible.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Too early?
Okay...
Yes I will say the kid is to blame, but I can't help but point a second finger at the boy's father. He knew what the kid was doing, and how long he was playing for and he did nothing to prevent it? I'm surprised he knows how to use a phone, let alone call emergency services. Then again, it is the western world and the majority of parents are fucking stupid.
I think a new classification should be given to people like this; "WoWer", not only does this happen more often with WoW then most other games (or at least its more publicized for WoW)but it also makes just about everyone say 'wow' as their face collapses into a rising palm completing the face palm.
I play WoW, yes its a fun game. But heck I cannot play that game for more then a few hours before I need to stop. Maybe that makes me weak,
Seriously what the hell.
It's also the sons fault as well, both are to blame.
What we should be rabbling about is that the father let his teenage son sit and play at his computer without eating or drinking properly for 24 hours, which in turned probably triggered a dormant epilepsy attack.
He then went to the newspapers and blatantly blamed a videogame. Whether he was playing World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 4 or Super Mario Brothers is entirely irrelevant.
If anything this proves that some parents are irresponsible and those same parents like to blame videogames when they know full well that they are at fault.
All you get is an achievement that won't be visible to others unless they go out of their way to inspect your achievements and look for the "first to 80" achievement.
There used to be titles for first to X but they were removed in beta. So sadly I won't get the title of "Doctor" for being server first to 450 first aid. :(

For those who don't understand my comment, here's Yrion's preach about the "evils" of videogames

Actually on topic, I don't think you can solely blame a single party. The parents were obviously at fault, the north european countries are known for their liberal attitudes. No child (I know he is 15) should have such a wrecklessly free rein over what can be potentially such a destructive activity. Coming to which, Blizzard has it's share of blame in any such story which comes up. The game is deliberately designed to be as time consuming as possible, especially so with reputation grinding and top tier gear aquisition. Fair enough, they need to keep people coming back, but their business model does damage their most vulnerable players.
I got my Magical Crawdad!
But seriously... Out of 11 million, there's bound to be idiots and freaks.
I don't understand why gamers can't relate to being stereo-typed in such manner, and go on the attack of other gamers just because of some morons that do stupid stuff.
Shame on you!
