Wrack

Wrack is going to swallow me up

4:30 PM on 09.12.2012

Why the hell is this the first time I've mentioned Wrack? I really want to bring it up a lot, but obviously I'm a bit rubbish. Remember when shooters were all about lubing up, slipping and sliding through intricate corridor mazes, and slaughtering enemy after enemy in an almost rhythmic manner? Wasn't it bloody awesome? Final Boss Entertainment, the brains behind Wrack, certainly do remember, and in an effort to jog our memories they've designed their fast paced shooter with older sensibilities.

Bobby Prince, Doom's composer, is lending his audio magic to the proceedings, which will undoubtedly send me back to being a kid, hunkered down for hours playing that particular hellish adventure. It might not be much to look at, though I for one love the cel shaded aesthetic, but damn does it nail that speed and gleeful mayhem. It's in alpha right now, but you can pick it up now for a 33% discount on the final price and get access to the latest build which is being frequently updated. It's up on Desura right now. Also, player built maps. Oh yes.

Review: Axiom Verge

It seems like a foregone conclusion when looking at Axiom Verge that comparisons are going to be made to Metroid. It is, without doubt, similar in more ways than it differs from Nintendo's iconic franchise. The differences matter, though, and Axiom Verge merges classic environment design with new mechanical twists, producing a game that feels both familiar and fresh at the same time.more

Whoa, Myriad looks like no other twin-stick shooter

It takes a lot for a twin-stick shooter to get my attention these days. I like the genre just fine, but it's so saturated that it's hard to muster any excitement for the next one that looks just like the last one. Thankfully...more

Space Sluggers is chaotic and so incredibly cheesy

I'm quite a fan of old-school action shoot-'em-ups. Back in the day, I used to venture off to an arcade at my local pizza place and just chill out. With particular titles like Ikari Warriors, Smash TV, and Commando focusing o...more
