Would you pay $10 for Lucidity? LucasArts hopes so photo

Downloadable games -- no matter which platform we're discussing here -- are great and all, but it's the highly-original nature of them that stands out to me. Forget about all of those high-def remakes of arcade classics for a moment, because that's not what I am referring to. I'm talking games like LucasArts' Lucidity.

The XBLA/Steam/D2D game was recently priced (via Shacknews) at the unexpectedly affordable $10 price point, which seems to be the magical cutoff point for most people when it comes to digital game downloads.

I myself am torn on the concept of Lucidity. I adore the art style, especially how both 2D and 3D elements are able to blend in together, but then we get to talking about the gameplay and I'm not so sure.

There's something about the nature of these videogames that are so indirect in terms of player control; it's almost as if the subject matter would be better suited for a different medium altogether, unfortunately. Am I alone in getting this feeling?

If this is released at £6.50, then definitely. I've bought much worse for much, much more money.

Everything about this game looks and sounds great but when I see gameplay videos, I can't help but feel bored.

The great thing about Arcade downloads is there's always a demo. So I can always try before I buy. Which is probably exactly what I'll do with this game. Try it, then buy it.

Looks like their piggy backing off of the success of indie titles. Maybe this is a good sign, maybe it isn't. I could keep the 10 dollars instead. Or maybe donate it to a freeware dev... I like that idea. I'll do that.

Subject matter needs to be in a different medium?? Sure, if you like everything to remain static and surprise-free. Unfortunately, you're not alone with that feeling, and for those of us who really want to see v-games wander into new territories, we hope your numbers dwindle.
Also, yeah, I'd pay that!

$10 is nothing considering how good this looks. I'll definitely put the cash down, but it'll have to be good first. The fact that you don't control her is weird, but taking chances sometimes makes things interesting, in my opinion. I see why you would feel that way, but I can't wait to see if the risk pays off.

Peh $10! That's it! Of course I'd pay it, too bad it's not on the PSN =P But for my PC it is!! It's cinematic and overall style and theme looks incredible and great but I agree with most on the simplicity of the gameplay.

I think it's really too early to tell what the gameplay will be like, however I feel like I want to support LucasArts coming out of their shell a bit and trying new and interesting things again. At least from an art and sound design perspective, this is already a winner... so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
