Would you like your PSP Fruit Roll-Up style? photo

My first response to this photo was ".....What...IS that?" If you doing the same, I wouldn't be a bit surprised. The odd object you see above is actually concept art for a new version fo the PSP, drawn by artist Tai Chiem. It of coure has no basis in reality whatsoever, which is probably a good thing as I think it would look awkward to say the least in many a man's front pocket.

The reason the screen is all floppy-like is that it is envisioned as a flexible OLED display. That's definitely a cool idea, but I feel like the tube shape would be painful in the hands after a while. Of course, if you think of it as just art and not as a practical application, it's pretty slick, but being a gamer I can't not think of what actually playing with it would be like.

Is that a flexible OLED PSP in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I would love to have one of those, although that concept art is wrong on so many levels.

Only works with games that don't use the x,o tringle or square buttons it seems...

I'm terribly sorry for being a bit of a Nazi to what was probably an honest mistake but, "It of coure has no basis in reality whatsoever,". You're missing the 's' from 'course'. Much apologies oh great one. *cowers in corner*

But yeah, that looks like a pain in the ass.

If the flexi screen hardens/stiffens it may not be so bad. I'd of course have to try one out.

Even then though the stick itself seems to long.

Amazing as a concept, not so amazing for actually using to play.

haha, clearly you can only play games that don't require any form of controller input.

For a minute there I thought you thought OLEDs weren't real. Definitely not practical for gaming, but I can't wait for OLEDs and ePaper to really take off and become commonplace.

I would be afraid of the wind if I had one of those...

Interesting idea but not sure how practical it is. Considering the PSP seems to be moving away from physical software purchases, I can see something along the lines of this happening.

No thanks... has RE5 been confirmed on PSP?

It looks like it has two analog sticks, so it might be good for FPS's, but probably not.

I hate outlandish concept designs so much. If you don't have basic common sense, don't bother trying to design something.

yes but think of all the other things the tube shape would allow for Colette!, *wink*

I'm a whore I might just buy it because it's neat.

Honestly - Sony has never been huge into ergonomics, so the tube is perfectly acceptable in the Playstation world. Otherwise - This seems like a very costly idea, that will probably break a lot...

But then, I don't really find much use for my poor little PSP as-is, so maybe I won't care.
