Would-be arsonist thwarted after bragging on game site photo

A wannabe UK arsonist has been intercepted and arrested by police after he was caught bragging about his intended actions on gaming portal Newgrounds. The 16-year-old moron was spotted by a Montreal man who took the threat seriously enough to alert British authorities.

"I saw this thread started by this guy," explains the 21-year-old student, who saw this thread started by this guy. "It didn't seem serious at first. It said that today at 11:30 a.m. GMT I will commit violence and other forms of arson against my school [in Norfolk]. He had posted a picture of a gas can."

Although the police had no address and only a forum thread to go on, they were able to track down the teen within an hour thanks to help from the Newgrounds community. He was found with a knife, matches and a canister of flammable liquid, looking like he meant serious business.

The worst part of this story is that it's happened before, which makes the apprehended firestarter look even more stupid. Last year, a GameFAQs poster burned down a church and then boasted about it on the message board, an act which led to his arrest. If you can't learn from people's mistakes, then you really shouldn't be allowed out of your house.

I guess we can be thankful that most would-be criminals are dumb as rocks.

i never did understand how destroying someone's property, someone who hadn't done anything to harm said arsonists in most occasions, could possibly be something to brag about.

Sign one you're aiming for an hero.

When you post an arson threat on a highly trafficked website and make it look serious enough for someone to report it.

Chalk another one up for video games! Nothing like some online gaming to crank up the ego machine and turn the setting to trash talk.

I love the local "youf" gangs who are such criminal masterminds that they go out to "eatz" (local slang for rob) and make mobile phone vids of it and post it on youtube thinking that when the police notice the trend they aren't going to link them to these robberies.

Morons......

I hope my kid will work out quite quickly two things - Never $hit where you eat & if you run with the wolves, you'll learn how to howl.

See? Who says Anonymous are bad people? We do our fair share of helping the world! In the United States we're the villains, but in Canada we're heroes!

Arsonists are a funny breed. They seem to lack the pride of a true criminal, and just enjoy flailing about trying to create a mess wherever possible...

Well, he still gained some notorietey; probably not what he'd wanted as the douche that burned down his school, but as the douche who got caught before he did anything because of his retarded stunt at getting his name around the internet as the douche who burned down his school.

Jim, I posted more here if you need it.

The scary thing is, I only live a couple of dozen miles away. The link has three links to the local newspaper article I got.

Jim, you almost sound like he shouldn't have posted his plans, when you say he should have learned from other people's mistakes (with the mistake being plans posted on the forum).

He is not a moron for posting, he is a moron for wanting to burn the school!

@Gamechamp: Newgrounds is a website with games on it. How can that be called anything but a gaming website?

@Chronic Logic - If by "good people" you mean "easily amused, socially inept losers", sure. But no one is talking about "Anonymous" here. This was newgrounds, not 4chan.

Yep, just like in the movies and cartoons where the villain tries to explain his whole plot, as the good guy moves into position behind him...

Typical "Evil Guy" behaviour.
