Trying to keep the Dreamcast alive is a noble cause. And trying to make the beloved game system portable in some form is commendable. But seeing this example of not quite there is both sad and funny.

I'm not picking on the emulator creators. It's an absolutely amazing feat to get Dreamcast titles running on the PlayStation Portable, and this is something I couldn't even begin to do. But the above video is excruciating to watch.

First off, the Dreamcast boot animation takes about half a minute to go through! In fact, to save you some time, the first non-menu game footage of Shenmue doesn't show up until about 3 minutes and 40 seconds into the video. And then, when it finally does show, you'll notice a hilarious and glaring omission. Poor Ryo!

Let's hope this nullDC, the PSP-ported Dreamcast emulator we're seeing in action, can one day be powerful enough to make these games playable.

Ryo's gonna find it pretty hard to find out who killed his dad if he doesn't have a head... *facepalm*

Man, the SH4 is running at 1/8-1/20 of it's actual speed. Impressive.

The scary thing was, I was just having a discussion about this. GET OUT OF MY HEAD!

I wasn't being sarcastic when I said Impressive. I genuinely am. If they get it up to a respectable speed I might revisit Shemue on my PSP at some point. Along with Chu Chu Rocket and others. ff

Shenmue wasn't the best choice to test the emulator. Using a 2d game(like Fire Pro D or MvC2) would give better results. At least those titles would be playable before Shenmue(and a handheld version of Fire Pro is always good to see).

I dont see why this is being talked about like its ready for distrobution. I have known about this project forever and have talked to Raz many times about it...

The dreamcast was only 200mhz so its possible, just have to give it time.

Pointless news is pointless news.

Jesus Christ...can YOU do a better job? I'm pretty sure this is work in progress...believe it or not as it is, i think it's awesome!

To mock something which is obviously at an early state is just being plain douchebaggery.

Yeah seriously guys, as linuxguy said this is a proof of concept. Zhe N64 emulator started off the same and now mario 64 and some other games are already playable.

I just hope that this can somehow port to the pandora when it comes out- the specs are better than the PSP, so it may handle better

thats what happens when any new emulator comes out....the N64 one has been in progress for a few years, and it still isint at full speed....the only reason the others are all ready working full speed (atari, NES, SNES, gen,GB, GBA, etc.) is because they dont require as much power as newer systems, and in terms of why PSx works, and not N64 is because the psp wasnt ment to translate N64 code, and thus the coders have to basically start from scratch there...im not a coder myself, i have just been following the homebrew scene since '05

This.

Reverse engineering a dreamcast to run on the PSP is a pretty big thing.

I would be embarrassed to put this on youtube. I don't care how talented a programmer you are. It doesn't matter when the fruits of your labor are the embodiment of futility.

You obviously don't know how happy developers are to even get demoes running at any speed, much less a full commercial game that still is pretty by today's standards.
