Ahh, Worms. The game my friends and I secretly installed on all the computers in our middle school's computer lab so that we could play instead of doing whatever asinine "Learn how to use a computer!" task we had been assigned. It's been 10 years since there was a new Worms game on the PC, but that's about to change.
Worms Reloaded's release date has just been announced, and it's coming out on Steam on August 26th. Promising 60 single player missions, a full map editor (or as they call it, a landscape creator), and HD visuals, this is a game I'm going to picking up for sure, because OMG WORMS!!!!
Pre-orders are opening up today, and pre-ordering from Steam nets you 10% off the normal price of $19.99, a day's worth of early access to the game, and some in-game items. Check out the trailer after the jump, and let us know what you think.
Jonathan Ross is an Associate Editor in Los Angeles who is obsessed with capybaras. Like, seriously, obsessed. If he's not playing Team Fortress 2 or getting into arguments about why PC gaming is superior, he's either off having a fancy dinner with lots of expensive wine, or sitting on the Destructoid IRC complaining that's he's not off having a fancy dinner.
Likes: Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter, Steam, everything Blizzard and Valve have ever made, playing Angry Birds on the toilet.
Meet the rest of the team
I understand the "if it aint broke dont fix it" mentality. Worms is a fantastic game. I just wonder how many times Team 17 has released what is essentially the same game.
The Worms franchise is probably the greatest comeback story of gaming history. To completely screw up a franchise and be able to rescue it from oblivion without passing it off to another developer takes some real skill.
The previous Worms games on PC only went up to 640x480 (at least from what I remember), so that is still sub-HD. But I do see your point, I've been able to run Quake at 1680x1050 for the past decade.
I'm pretty sure Worms: Armageddon could run at a higher rez (remember when they called it that? Hi-Rez?). Maybe not HD though, it's been too long since I've played it.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Armageddon never left.
That trailer:
1) Beauuutiful.
2) No Mac release? ¬_¬
Will there be Wormsong?
Cus that XBLA version lacked the epicness of the theme tune which pretty much killed my interest in it.
Well if you look there's plenty of new weapons :) The Parachute whilst Rocket Launching looks overpowered, but a hell of a lot of fun :)
Sometimes I wonder, Destructoid.
I'm sure he meant the first 2d offering in ten years.
...and really, who can blame him for forgetting the lackluster 3d titles.

Why does everyone hate on the 3D Worms line-up? Those were some solid games!
