Is it still the 160GB model?
Because if so it theoretically should have been this all along, since the 250GB 360 was the same price at $300. I'd like to see a $200 slim model, as I have yet to upgrade from my fatty and don't want to spend a lot on a machine I rarely use.

i'm not impressed at all. in my country when 360S launched last year 250GB model was already priced at 265euros with a game. since early 2011 they're selling 265-280euro bundles with 2-3 games(depending on the games - with newer titles it goes for 280euros) and barebone 250GB xbox 360 goes for 220euros.
as for the prices of ps3 - i would rather wait and see considering that when ps3 was suppose to be priced at 300euros in the past sony priced it in my country at 330euros. so yeah, when both consoles got supposedly 100euro price cut down to 300euros each it ended up with:
250GB 360S bundles with a game selling for 265-280 depending on the title,
barebone ps3 going for 330euros and it still costs as much,

Amazing, this is what everybody was waiting. Now the road to the top is clear for the PS3. Way to go Sony.
Still not too interested. I hope the ps4 is backwards compatible, then I'll just get that thing on launch day and buy the old ps3's worthwile games then.

Why would Microsoft do anything? They still have a $199 system, that is cheaper. Sure it has no hard-drive, but its still seen as a cheaper price and they still have the $299 250GB model, which Sony still has a 320GB model at $299. So there the exact same price now, just you get more hard-drive space on the PS3, but I guess that's what the new 320GB Star Wars/Gears bundles are for, at $399 this holiday season.

Sure it has no hard-drive, but its still seen as a cheaper price and they still have the $299 250GB model, which Sony still has a 320GB model at $299. An XBox 360 without a hard drive is fucking useless. My poor friend just got one through the free XBox with a windows PC promo and he can't play Halo Reach custom games with me. Not to mention all the demos that easily fill up that measly 3 gig hdd.

My only worry is how long the PS3's console cycle is going to last past this price drop. I've really been wanting to get one so I could play some of the exclusives (The Uncharted series and MGS4 mostly) so I can see what the fuss is but don't want to drop $250 on something if the next consoles could be just around the corner..
If its 1 year, then I wouldn't do this since it seems to take me forever to play anything any more, if its 2 years I'd be inclined to drop the money on this.

why? because in countries where american dollar, pound or euro is not official currency sony rips off customers while MS is giving us much cheaper games and consoles? even nintendo products cost less here.
prices in my country:

I bought my PS3 last year from amazon for $200 (actually it was $300 with a $100 gift card, but it's the same thing)

If you buy a 16GB or less USB memory stick, you can play pretty much everything you want on a $100 360 Arcade unit. You can find those for like $10-$20 now on Ebay/Slickdeals.com.
The 360's price is pretty darn rock bottom, and unless you truly hate Microsoft, everyone should own at least an Arcade.

Son of a bitch. My 60GB fattie just died LAST WEEK so I bought a new 160GB and upgraded the HDD to 320GB and now this happens. Fucking hell. I really didn't expect this at Gamescom. Oh well. Great for all the late adopters I suppose.
Smart move on Sony's part. I was wondering how Sony planned to uphold their sales projections. A price drop is a good answer.

When you consider $249 is the same price as the useless 4GB litterbox (how would you play Forza on it?), and 1 year of XBL this is obviously the better deal.
