I reported a short while back that a 31 year old woman from Australia was arrested upon entering the States to take a 17 year old boy home with her after 'falling in love' through World of Warcraft. After one month in jail, Tamara Broome has been sent back to Adelaide following a plea deal and the charge of "contributing to the delinquency of a minor." The only detailed restriction is that Broome cannot have contact with her significantly younger significant other until he turns 18 on June 9, 2008. Here's hoping that in such time, one of them grows up and finds somebody their own age. I'm far from against Internet romance, but let's try and keep at least a five year age gap, yes?
Were this a male, the seedy and sad WoW lover would likely still be in prison. Should she have been given special treatment based on gender? I'm not so sure. I guess I can do nought but quote Joe Burling on that matter: "It's only sexual assault if a man goes after a woman. If a woman goes after a man, it's called getting laid". Sad, but true.

Actually, I don't believe the double-standard is a result of people feeling unduly sorry for women as it is catering to the idea that all males are sex-crazed horndogs. Males are taught from a young age that if they have a chance for attractive tail, they should welcome it - even if it's way too old for them.
It's very basically like telling a rape victim that because their attacker was attractive, they should feel lucky they got some play. Women need to be smacked harder legally when they do this crap, but people also need to discourage this "hot for teacher" bullshit. I guarantee you if a teenaged male actually COMPLAINED that his older female teacher was making moves on him, he'd be ridiculed for being a "pussy" or several other epithets for males who don't put sex above all else.

Really, the only thing this chick did wrong was not wait a year to fly over. Had she done that, they could have started a dingo farm back in the motherland and had night elf themed sex every night of the week, since the only crime looks to be trying to take a minor out of the country. The one month in jail was probably time served while waiting for the attorney to build a case and whatnot, since I'm guessing 17 is probably above the legal age of consent where the lucky little nerd lives; had they just rented a motel room and bumped uglies there wouldn't even be a crime there.
