But is it intriguing enough to convince everyone to give another videogame-based movie a chance? Uh ... I'll let you be the judge of that. My general viewpoint tends to be that of expecting the absolute worse and then likely getting something that's not great, but it's not the horrible mess you thought it would be.
The IMDB page of the Sam Raimi-directed flick recently got a facelift -- originally just World of Warcraft, the film is now referred to as Warcraft: The Rise of the Lich King. The interesting part, which IncGamers notes, is that this could signify the film going in the same direction as the popular Christie Golden novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King.
If Raimi's movie is going to be standard epic fantasy battles with massive set pieces, then I could care less. If it's instead going to be a much more personal story of Arthas becoming a Death Knight and, well, you know the rest, then consider me interested in hearing more.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

It's late. Leave me alone.
Still... it's a movie being made by SAM MO-THER-FUCK-IN' RAIMI so I simply must see it. But really, how good could this possibly be? And how does one follow something like Drag Me To Hell? Dammit, I loved that movie.
I fuckin' want this to kick ass. If it does it just might push me into paying attention to Warcraft. I never got into it for some reason.
PS. Fuck you Sam Raimi.
At least it could be good as long as they show subtle change in Arthas as his soul begins to wear thin. Like Luke Skywalker and his slow (partial) decent to the dark side. It was subtle, i.e. every movie his clothes got darker (white > orange > black). Such things like that could make it very compelling
The downward spiral of Arthas is probably what will be the main focus then. I wonder if they show the cleansing of Stratholme (a-f**king-gain).
I just want to see how his story ends really, I sure as hell won't be investing all my free time raiding to see that stupid ending (where Arthas falls), wait, turns out I know it already! ... grumble ...
Regardless, the downfall of Arthas (which was the entire storyline of Warcraft 3) was fantastic, and I'm glad to see it maybe the topic of the new film. He'll sadly be long dead in WoW terms when the film is out, but I can't see any other related storyline in WoW that is as epic. Illidan of course was an awesome character, so I'm hoping he returns as well.
Plus, humans are less expensive than gnomes, trolls, tauren and nightelves to put on screen for long stretches of time. :p
You *could* care less? So if Raimi's movie *is* going to be standard epic fantasy battles with massive set pieces, you'll still be reasonably interested?
Just checking, unintended positives instead of negatives can be so confusing. I don't know nothing.
mind you, i dont expect something *amazing* or anything - i'm expecting something along your typical summer-blockbuster-action flick, a la "300" or the like (but hopefully better than 300 was).
really, it would be very easy for them to get this right, as the major parts of the story are already written in Warcraft 3, and they have plenty of big epic action movies (with touches of drama) they could use for inspiration - hopefully they wont disappoint (though hollywood seems determined to do just that with videogame movies, so i guess we'll see).
That being said, I admit that my interest in this movie dropped severely when it was revealed that Raimi was attached to direct this film because his previous work in fantasy, even if it is only as a producer/creator role and not director, has established that he sees fantasy as a the type of campy romp you see in Hercules/Xena/Army of Darkness. I would love that he brings into Warcraft more of the darkness in Darkman or the darker sections of Spider-man but I just can't help but think of the fantasy elements that Raimi has already contributed to and wonder if he was hired to bring that to Warcraft.
