World of Warcraft film written by Saving Private Ryan guy photo

Robert Rodat. That's your man. He's the guy who will write up the World of Warcraft film adaptation. Director Sam Raimi says that the movie script will be a wholly original work based in the universe of the popular online role-playing game, and not a reworking of an existing novel, as previously thought.

"We want to be really faithful to the game," Raimi said. "We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture."

Whatever. Do you think Rodat will do a good job? Will they cast Tom Hanks?

As long as they don't cast Tom Hanks, this film will have a chance.

Bigmoose85: Like he did with Spiderman? Loooooooooooooooooool.

If he brings out his big guns from two-three decades ago it might be good tho :)

This just got slightly more watchable. Wonder if they'll still consult the lore guys like Metzen from Blizzard or just go with something completely side story like with no main characters from the Warcraft universe.

Raimi? Well, fuck. Although WoW should match his cheesiness.

Let me get this straight:

The studio behind this movie is the studio behind 300.
The director is the director of the Spider-Man movies.
The producer is the producer of The Dark Knight.
The writer is now the writer of Saving Private Ryan?
Oh yeah, and Bruce Campbell will likely be in the movie.

Could this movie possibly be made of any more win?

Starcraft's story was pretty convoluted, but the basic story behind the races was kinda cool. Saving Private Ryan was a mediocre movie, and the writing definitely wasn't the best part of it.
Regardless, this is gonna be huge, and I choose to completely ignore it form this point forward.

Sam Raimi does his own Lord of the Rings? But with dutch angles and reverse photography. My bet? Bruce Campbell as Leroy Jenkins, the first jackass killed in battle.

I just don't see the need for a WOW movie. Even with the talent attached to it IMO this reeks of a bullshit cash in on the game's popularity.

With Sam Raimi directing, and the nerd-culture status of Bruce Campbell, Tom Hanks doesn't have a chance in hell of landing a part.

Were the rumors of it being about the Lich King ever confirmed?

Original story eh? So much for the rise of Arthas...

Could be interesting, I think. I just hope it doesn't feel like they're cramming too many things in. There's bunch of talented and invested people on this project (Metzen and team are supposed to be heavily, from the ground up involved). We'll just have to watch them execute

Original story?

Now I'm cautious. It sounds like it should be astronomically awesome, but that little fact has me worried. What's wrong with the WC3 lore?
