World in shock at mention of upcoming Skate sequel photo

No surprises here, but it looks like Electronic Arts is working on -- or at least thinking about -- a new game in the Skate franchise.

One of the dudes over at skateboarding Web site Epicly Strife dropped some info on the new hot place to spill your guts, Twitter.

“I just got told ‘tonight we gotta’ celebrate,’” Epicly Trife’s Schmitty wrote, “one of the bros got offered to be in Skate 3.”

Seeing as how the first and second games were reasonably solid, we could think of worse news. But EA should tread carefully, and keep an eye on the history of the one-time King of Skating Games, Tony Hawk Pro Skater.

If you recall, developer Neversoft made a Tony Hawk game a year until it got burnt out and moved on to Guitar Hero. If history is any indication, Skate developer EA Black Box will be working on Rock Band titles by 2013. Obviously.

What new would you like to see EA bring to the series? What’s missing? What would you like to see go away?

I haven't played Skate 2 yet, but the first one was brilliant. I just hope they have already fixed the vert tricks to make getting momentum less of a hassle.

I dunno. From the demo of Skate II it felt like it took away alot of the charm and stuff that I actually really liked about Skate 1... The grungy filter on the camera. The flow of being a man on a skate board just wasn't there in the demo. I don't know if it's different in the actual game, but the demo kinda turned me off.

In Skate, I didn't have to worry about moving dumpsters and shit like that, I never even had to get off my board. I could just zen out and, you know, skate. I liked that aspect. To me, it kinda messed things up when they started adding more crap to it. I dunno. I have to get the full game to really get an idea about it. But those were my initial feelings.

ah, but will it support Tony's upcoming skateboard peripheral?, that's the question. Just think though. SKATE'S awesome graphics, + Tony's Hoverboard could equal quite a combo.

But, drop in drop out two-player would be nice, if of cause 2's didn't already support that...?

I loved Skate and when the demo for Skate 2 came out i didn't dig it. But the full game was brilliant, if you enjoyed the first one definitely check out the second.

Let's hope they keep SKATE 3 as a controller based game. It will work in their favour definitely. They should release on the same day as Tony Hawk at half the price and KICK his arse!!!!

how about good online play that's not laggy and boring? I had more fun playing thps4 online than anything else, ever.

The patch tightened up off-the-board movement, but I wouldn't mind it being a little tighter. What else? Maybe twice as many missions. Oh! And how about fixing up online so when you bail, there isn't that 2 second delay/re-spawn, followed by the extra half second before you can actually start pushing. Ooh, and manual variations. I've been wanting to one foot manual forever. And perhaps less insistence on having to move shit around. I think I can go on and on.

I thought Skate 2 was awesome and I anxiously await the third in the series. As much as they have supported the 2nd with reasonably priced and fun to play DLC, I say they've earned another title.

I've liked the Skate games up to a point. I find the controls to be getting a bit complex where there is a lot of effort required to nail down the moves you want to do.

@Holiday

That's the whole point. The harder the moves, the more complex they oughta be. It's a pretty good representation of skating, you know... with using buttons and whatnot.

I can dig it, but I think I'd prefer if they only released a sequel about once every two years. I haven't even picked up skate 2 yet.

I'm going to be honest here... The only reason I even have the Skate demos on my PS3 is because I like taking videos of my friend and I causing as much pain to the skaters as possible. I don't actually play for points... I play for broken bones. :P

Skate 2 is the shit. There needs to be some improvements, for sure, but I have faith in the franchise.
Split-screen would be nice.

skate 2 hasn't really spent much time out of the 360 since it came out, i'll always play at least one or two spot battles with my roomate a day.
i'd say the game is near perfect as it is, just give me a more responsive camera (it's great at having a mind of it's own sometimes). better off-board controls would be nice, and with that some more functionality when arranging rails and ramps would be good.

really though, i think skate is a fresh enough franchise that some tweaks to the engine and a fancy new map would be plenty for skate fans. i know i'd definitely buy a copy without hesitation. in fact, i'd go as far as saying they could probably pump out two more skate titles before they really need to think of a new angle for it.
