Woman beaten to death for an Xbox photo

What I'll never understand about some crimes is how extreme they are in comparison to what is actually at stake. We all love games, but to murder someone for want of an Xbox is just, as Kenosha, Wisconsin, police chief John Morrissey says, "pathetic."

Capri Walker, 51, was beaten to death by two Kenosha teenagers aged 14 and 15. Others may also be charged with the crime, which is being recommended by police as a first-degree intentional homicide. As a homicide case, they can be tried as adults under state law.

"There is still an active investigation going on," Morrissey said. "We believe we have recovered the murder weapon. It appears at this time that it was a burglary, and Ms. Walker interrupted that burglary and was murdered."

The two boys were neighbors to Ms. Walker, and were found out after a call came in to the Crime Stoppers tips line. A number of stolen items belonging to Walker, including the Xbox, were found at their home. Very pathetic, indeed.

I love it that the headline is for an xbox!! Its says there was a number of items stolen!! Pisses me off that just becasue of all the GTA bull shit in the papers they make it into an xbox crime!! Feck off they were two stupid dick heads doing a robbery, leave video games out of it!!

Sux for her family though, RIP.

@TorpedoTed: Normally, I'd be up in arms about that too, but from the story, it appears that the Xbox -- a "computer game device" -- was what the burglars (and soon-to-be killers) were after.

I hope these fucks get the life in prison they're being recommended for...but it won't happen.

My xbox is broken at the minute.

I wonder if MY neighbour has one.

Don't worry they're the scum of the earth no-one will miss them. I heard copycat crimes were all the rage nowadays.

Also, we don't know the person who was killed. She might have been a real asshole. I've no sympathy for the burglars though theft is just wrong.

Maybe the thieves wernt stealing the xbox at the time and were just plugging their 360 into her HD TV just to see if the picture quality was better than their portable TV, she walks in from the kitchen and gets up in their face about turning off her show, I mean you've got it coming to you if youd rather watch 'Friends' than inbreed Pinata's.

My main worry is that it may have been a regular Xbox. No mention of it being a 360.

That's not to say that a 360 would have been justified. But seriously. Their level of patheticness would increase exponentially if it were an older Xbox model.

O.o

Can I just point out here that the woman was killed for a "number of stolen items", including an Xbox. Clearly that doesn't change what they did but (and I apologise for being so blunt here) why is this even a story?

The xbox here is completely inconsequential, and while the story is horrific and the boys clearly deserve punishment, it may as well have been a car or a set of coasters for all the difference it makes.

We can safely say the murder weapon wasn't the XBOX.
It'd disintegrate on Contact if wielded with any aggressive force.

Captain Sisko, may I be the one to put a phaser blast in the sides of those fu*kers' heads? Please? May I? On full power? We can even make sure that they wear red shirts to keep it up to standards.

Violence begets violence. You know if someone broke into my house to steal something, even without rhyme or reason, I don't think I'd have a problem letting them take it.

Back in the day if someone broke into your house it was usually "a desperate man at the end of his rope", now it's just keeping up with the Jones's has become too expensive.

I'm a bit surprised no one here has tried to crucify the parents yet, you guys are slipping.

@Android:

Yeah, well, if someone breaks into my house there's a fairly good chance that they'll end up with one or several 9mm rounds in them. I don't care if they're only there to steal something. Any chance of posing a danger to my wife and kids is a death sentence.

With respect to the parents, unless they said "Go and steal that shit", they can only be blamed for so much. The parents can be the best in the world; but that doesn't mean a damned thing if the kids have been brainwashed by the rest of society to believe that they've been trodden down and that they deserve whatever they can get their hands on.

Anyone else noticed when someone dies over a gaming console, its always an Xbox or a 360?

The drive-by shootings during the PS3 launch is an exception though.

@sirinth: I noticed that too; let's hope they were at least 'smart' enough to go for a 360.
@Sinow Wolf: If it was an original Xbox, it could have BEEN the murder weapon.

Also, what is it with Star Trek captains and their facepalms?
