Wolverine's violence might mislead moviegoers photo

As you may have read from our preview, I had the opportunity to check out X-Men Origins: Wolverine last week, and also got chatting to Raven Software project lead Dan Vondrak. We had an interesting chat about how the game got started (Raven were already working on a Wolverine game before tying it into the movie) and how they wanted to make the most true-to-character title possible. Our most interesting discussion topic, however, was the game's undeniable brutality.

"We're actually pretty worried about the violence in the game," he explains. "People might play our game and think, 'Oh cool, we're gonna get an R-rated Wolverine movie,' but the movie has none of the brutality we have ... we basically told Fox that the violence stays, and Fox was cool with that."

The game is certainly gory, with throat-to-testicle, claw-rending, Kurt Cobain-flavored shotgun executions, and a ridiculous amount of dismemberment. Realistic, yes, but certainly not true to the film. Be warned that if you want to see Hugh Jackman spill blood and rip off heads the way he should, then the videogame is the only place it'll happen.

X-men don't go around killing every bad guy they see, even Wolverine doesn't do that, usually. Even though he'd most certainly love to kill some.
That's like making a Batman game, where you have to kill all the bad guys in a room before moving on to the next level.

@Chronic Logic

Why do you need logic when you have intestines of your enemies worn as neclackes ?

This is AWESOME news about the game! I really thought it was going to be as tame as the movie. This has been bumped up to a must buy for me.

Thanks for the confirmation on the violence Mr. Sterling. I doubt many people care as much as I do, but I have a strict "no blood, no buy" policy in my action games and movies. I appreciate news on this topic.

Does this also mean we won't see Logan having BONECLAWS BEFORE THE WEAPON X PROGRAM?!

Or ehm... not FUCKING UP DEADPOOL by giving him all kinds of mutant powers? Skip the movie if you value your lives and like Wolverine or Marvel, please.

I'm holding out for something good, but if I had to bet on the quality of this game one way or another and risk being killed by adamantium claws then I'll bet on it being another craptastic movie tie-in game...

I'm slightly skeptical of this game because it is a movie tie-in. But what I have seen so far looks good so I guess I will at least give it a rental.

@Professor Pew: I thought that's who that was, but then they just went and made him all different.
And we had better get to see some wicked Bone Claw action or I'm gonna be pissed. There was bone claw in the movie

I haven't followed the game until right now. I love the sound of a super bloody Wolverine.

I'm excited for the movie, too. Even though Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool... Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber are great actors. Decent director, too.
