Wipeout HD is 20 bucks but the seizures are free photo

At a Sony event in San Francisco, 1UP was able to confirm that Wipeout HD will debut on PlayStation Network for $20 in North America. Wipeout HD will have 16 “classic” tracks (the majority stemming from the PSP versions) all converted into high-definition.

The last time we talked about Wipeout HD, it was because the game failed epilepsy testing. The portion that caused the problem (Zone Mode) has been removed to make sure that you don’t fall face first on the floor and swallow your tongue while trying to race. While not having seizures is a good thing, the problem did present a pretty funny mental image when you factor crazy techno music into a seizure situation.

The release date is still up in the air even though the game has been finished, but expecting the title to drop within the next month probably wouldn’t be that farfetched. The official word on the matter is sometime in 2008.

I'm pretty sure they could have made Zone mode without causing siezures, they've done that mode a few times before... I was sure that the epilepsy reason was debunked as rumour.

Possibly the only PS3 mandatory install I won't mind.

I was hoping you would apologise for your 1st report "Get your epilepsy out of my WipEout HD".

But I guess you do not read the comments to your reports?

This is just under LittleBigPlanet on my want list. Insanely hyped for this, I don't like Zone that much so losing it isn't too much of a blow for me.

Only pussies get seizures from Zone Mode.

And epileptics, too, I guess.

this and little big planet are almost reason enough for me to look into buying a ps3.

Twenty bucks for a game that I don't get to own? No thanks.

If it's between playing it/not owning it and not getting to play it at all, I'd go for the former. Think of it as a long rental, a 10 year one.

Not a bad deal at all for 16 tracks. I paid more for less with Wipeout on the PSP.

Dammit Wipeout! My seizures aren't photosensitive! We need Zone mode as DLC, free of course!

I don't have a Ps3, but after seeing the trailer for this game, I want a PS3, oh well for now I'll just have to play Wipeout 64.

I'd drop $20 on that.

Wait...did they take out the whole of Zone Mode or just take part of it out?

Because either way this kind of sucks...screw seizures the new Zone mode was looking like the ultimate Rez/Audiosurf experience thus far.

They just made Zone mode the same as the old ones, and took out most of the new trippy effects. I would have least liked the ability to unlock the original version, but I understand how that's not possible.

@megatron0016 How is this any different to other XBL/PSN games?

Never played any of the Wipeout games and feel like I'm missing out on something good. I might just have to get this.

No, I don't think it will ever show up on XBLA as it's made by Sony Liverpool.
