Windows Phone 7 Series to support Xbox LIVE mobile

9:20 AM on 02.15.2010

Today Microsoft has announced its next mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7 Series. The part that's relevant to your interests is -- surprise! -- it will support Xbox LIVE.

According to the press release, the Games "hub delivers the first and only official Xbox LIVE experience on the phone." This will include Xbox LIVE games, avatars, achievements, your gamer profile, and more. No word on to what extent it will support Xbox LIVE games, but we hope to hear more soon.

With the introduction of Android-based phones and the iPhone, Windows Mobile has been overshadowed the past few years. But with the introduction of Xbox LIVE support, that could change everything...

Okay, maybe not, but the platform does look pretty impressive. Check out what it can do in the video above.

[Extremely Homer voice] The Simpsons are going to Minecraft!

Sure, you could make eye contact with these official Minecraft renditions of the Simpsons, but I wouldn't recommend it. They're joining 19 other Springfield residents in a $1.99 DLC pack toward the end of February on Xbox One and Xbox 360, with other platforms to follow. Reached for comment, Minecraft owner Microsoft had this to say:more
