MAINGEAR Call of Duty raffle & tournament comes to a close photo

Thanks to everyone that participated in our MAINGEAR Call of Duty 4 raffle and tournament, sponsored by Intel.

Casual players: If you completed a match or played for a bonus ticket you've been registered to win the $1,300 PC this Friday, so best of luck!

Skill ladder players: We'll be combing through the results this week and will announce the players that move on to the semi-finals soon.  These guys will be playing for a chance to win sick computers.

Random prize winners! Congratulations to Smurfee Mcgee who won the Cyberpower gaming mouse, and five Overlord winners: Grizbo, NV_misfit, Renemonney, Zakupilot256, and KenjiXSamurai. Nice way to start a Saturday, guys!

Not one of our winners today?  There's still a ton of other contests going on, such as posting a comment for a chance to win a $100 American Express gift certificate from Intel & Asus. We're also giving away an Xbox 360 for dressing up funny as well as a PSP. Check our contest page for more updates!

-------------------------

Calling all Call of Duty 4 players!  It is my pleasure to present $8,300 worth of computer prizes that must be taken away from Destructoid and put into your houses. Here's the best part: You have a chance to win one even if you completely suck and can't win a single fight. Seriously.

Did you get that? This is not your average cybersport chestpumping fragfest.  Well, ok, there's some of that, but there's also something here for casual players as well.  We listened closely to your feedback regarding our last tournament and have made some changes to the way we're conducting this season.

How to win a PC:

  • Start a fight in Call of Duty 4 on the PC, PSN, or 360 -- your choice. (Finals, however, are on PC)
  • Casual Track: For each COD4 match you win or lose, you win a raffle ticket. In 3 weeks we will raffle away a $1,300 MAINGEAR PC.  You can play as much as you'd like anytime to increase your odds (up to 20 tickets per player).  You get +1 bonus ticket (21 max) for playing Icebreaker, our tricky puzzle game.
  • Pro Track: The best overall players will be selected to participate in a private semi-final round to win a $5,000 MAINGEAR PC (pictured above) featuring the Intel Core i7 Processor of ultimate awesome.
  • Semi-Pro Track:  Can't beat the top 4 guys?  Try beating as many others as you can!  When you beat a player for the first time, you win their unique dog tag. The top 3 dog tag holders and 2nd place player from the Pro Track will compete in private single elimination finals for a $3,000 MAINGEAR PC.

  • Tell a friend won't ya? If they suck it's an easy dog tag kill. Note: Playing your pets is cheating.

There's something here for everyone.  Hit the jump for the rules, fine print, and all that jazz:

Call of Duty 4 match rules

1v1.  Stock classes only.  16 stock maps only (backlot, bloc, bog, Wetwork, District, Ambush, Countdown, crash, crossfire, downpour, overgrown, pipeline, shipment, showdown, strike, and vacant).  No variety/add-on packs. No mods.  No hacks.  No hardcore mode. No faking the prone position. This is considered abusing the in-game mechanics. Teams found abusing this rule are subject to forfeit of the match. Valid proof will need to be submitted after the match is completed. Breaking this rule in the illegal location on Overgrown will result in an automatic forfeit.

Remember, the finals will be on a PC so if you're playing in the Pro or Semi-Pro league start practicing WASD + Mouse!

Zero tolerance anti-cheating policy

A note to all players: Note that you will be kicked if any sort of cheating is suspected on their play record by our admins (we have final say on the matter, period), so leaderboards are only a rough indication of who will be placing.  All game results will be reconciled by our FNF team by hand, one by one.  Be smart and there's no reason for us to intervene. If you have ANY issue whatsoever, please contact us asap.  Do not wait until the tournament is over to ask if X was OK or might be considered cheating, etc. or risk disqualification. By participating in this contest you agree that we reserve the right to throw you out of a moving car by the ear if we think you're trying to ruin it for everyone else.  Got it?  Good!

Additional FNF software updates coming

Also, please note that we've modified our software to only allow players to play a single opponent or IP address twice in one day.  Next week we will disable the ability for top scoring players to choose their own fights and FNF will choose their battles for them, prevening newly registered and amateur players from affecting their score.  We have a few new features rolling out shortly as well as we continue learning from our players.  We've also heard from a few pro players who disliked that our system invites in the casual crowd, so we hope the new the new prize tracks makes playing more fun for everyone at all skill levels involved.  FNF is not just for the beasts, it's for the gaming community at large. We all got into this for the fun of it, did we not?  Let's not exclude.

Quake Live Tournament update

The semi-finals games are currently being played in double elimination mode across various global servers, as our players are in different countries to make the lag fair, so it's taking a bit of time to coordinate.  We hope to announce the winners sometime next week.  (Congratulations to Gahndi on his victory today!).

That's all for now.  We hope you'll give it a shot and try your skills.  Good luck!

Contests Official Rules

1. Eligibility: Destructoid.com contests are usually provided by sponsors who, due to customs and shipping costs (yay budgets), often limit participation to individuals who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (unless otherwise stated) and are 12 years of age. We encourage our overseas friends to be super sneaky and make a friend in the United States who can receive your prize, and then you two figure out the customs/logistics. Be cautious about who you trust, obviously. Employees of destructoid.com, their advertising or promotion agencies, those involved in the production, development, implementation or handling of Contests, any agents acting for, or on behalf of the above entities, their respective parent companies, officers, directors, subsidiaries, affiliates, licensees, service providers, prize suppliers any other person or entity associated with the Contests (collectively “Contest Entities”) and/or the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members (whether related or not) of each such employee, are *not* eligible and will be fired and publicly beaten if are caught participating. All U.S., federal, state and local and regulations apply.

2. Agreement to Official Rules: Participation in the Contest constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

3. Entry Period: The start and end dates/times of each Contest (the “Entry Period”) will be posted on the applicable Contest site.

4. Entry: To enter a Contest, follow the instructions on the Contest site. Submission will result in one (1) entry. The number of times you can enter the Contest will be posted on the applicable Contest site. The use of any agencies or automated software to submit entries will void all entries submitted by that person.

5. Drawing: At the conclusion of the Entry Period, we will select the names of the potential winners in a random drawing of all eligible entries received during each Entry Period. The number of winners to be selected in a specific Contest will be posted on the applicable Contest site. The odds of being selected as a potential winner depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Entry Period. Potential winners will be contacted via email and will be asked to provide their full name, age and mailing address within a specified time period. If a potential winner does not respond within the timeframe stated in the notification email, we may select an alternate potential winner in his/her place at random from all entries received during the Entry Period. Limit one (1) prize per household per Contest.

6. Requirements of the Potential Winners: Winners will be notified by the e-mail address associated with their account on destructoid.com.com and/or receive a Private Message on destructoid.com.com or through a Twitter Direct Message/Facebook message. Winners have five (5) days from the original message alerting them of their winnings to respond and claim their prize. If no winner comes forward within five business days, the prize will be forfeited and raffled again where Destructoid's hardcore fans are most active (forums/community blogs/facebook group).

7. Prize(s): The prize(s) (including each prize’s approximate retail value) available to be won in a specific Contest will be posted on the Contest site. No cash or other substitution may be made, except by the Sponsor, who reserves the right to substitute a prize with another prize of equal or greater value if the prize is not available for any reason as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion. The winners are responsible for any taxes and fees associated with receipt or use of a prize. Prizes will be mailed between 1 to 45 business days after winners have replied with their required info.

8. General Conditions: In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Contest is impaired in any way for any reason, including, but not limited to fraud, virus, or other technical problem, the Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, either: (a) suspend the Contest to address the impairment and then resume the Contest in a manner that best conforms to the spirit of these Official Rules; or (b) award the prizes at random from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment. The Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. The Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. In case of a dispute as to the owner of an entry, entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the screen name from which the entry is made. The authorized account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.

9.Release and Limitations of Liability: By participating in the Contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Contest Entities from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use of any prize, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized human intervention in the Contest; (b) technical errors related to computers, servers, providers, or telephone or network lines; (c) printing errors; (d) lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, or undeliverable mail; (e) errors in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries; or (f) injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt of any prize. Entrant further agrees that in any cause of action, the Contest Entities’ liability will be limited to the cost of entering and participating in the Contest, and in no event shall the Contest Entities be liable for attorney’s fees. Entrant waives the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.

10. Disputes: Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, entrant’s rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Sponsors in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the Commonwealth of Virginia or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the Commonwealth of Virginia.

11. Contest Results: To enter the contest without needing to buy/sell anything or request a written copy of the name of the winners, send a self-addressed stamped envelope (stating the specific Contest you are requesting the winners for) to destructoid.com Contest Winners 260 King Street Suite 883, San Francisco California 94107. We run many contests, so please be specific in what you are requesting. Winner requests must be received within thirty (30) days from the end date of the applicable contest (they're always posted on our site though). Winners are usually posted the day following the contest on our contest section.

Lastly, Destructoid has the right to kick your ass and take away your prize if you are a total dickhead, so be cool and don't kick any puppies on your way to victory. Have fun with our contests and be a good sport when you win or lose. Remember: First you get the power, then you get the money, then get the baby.

Oh cool, nice new format you came up with for this. Hopefully people will actually play this time with consoles available.

I'm confused, I start a fight with some random people or is there some sort of ladder what?

Do I prove it how?

How do I do it on the 360?
Er... wait. I see. I think.

Start a fight with whoever you can in the lobby, then if you're on consoles, take pictures or anything else you can to prove it. PC's can do screenshots and demo recordings if they want.

Even if you lose?

I'll be participating initially on PS3. Then on PC.

For this, can we play randomers or is it Dtoiders we have to play?

I can record video, but not sound of any matches on my PS3, and I can get images of the wins.

Your friends can sign up for dtoid accounts, no problem. just connect remotely so your IP addresses are different or our system will think you're playing against yourself and ignore the points earned.

Ok I have to say this contest is to vague. I mean what about if they leave? How am I suppose to get them to stay around? What if they leave before I can even finish the game?

There's a whole lot of questions. Whats the limit that I can send in? What if I do 100 matches? Can I send all 100 wins in? Exactly how do I submit these wins?

I'd like some clarification before I continue, I'd hate to rake up a lot of wins only to have them disqualified because I didn't do something right or they didn't count because of some other reason.

Playstation 3 by the way.

Oh nm 20 max, or is it 21 with the Icebreaker...anyway are the shots that I have acceptable?

Volomon, there is a dispute system. If they leave, you click either "could not complete game" and report them. If we get enough disconnect reports about a player, we kick them out. We got your back! Just use the tools and we react.

Oh, I see what you're saying. You're not submitting kills, you're submitting wins using the stock game settings. You use the chat system to find an opponnent on fnf.destructoid.com and play 1 game at a time, log one game at a time. it must be done this way so we can capture their IP/time in/time out/your notes/their notes/ and other data we use for anti-cheat. You cannot score multi games at a time. You can upload photos to prove your victory if you mark win and they never mark loss.

Yeeeeah Boi! :]

Finished Ice Breaker :] What an addictive game. Well done to whoever made that game, I love it :)

Niero, can I ask how the IP and dispute system will work for consoles? Is all you want from us is to provide screenshots of my wins against anybody in a private match (with those rules obviously)?

@Woverine: I'm sorry I should have been more specific -- by stock we meant default options. No hardcore mode, no weird maps, etc. I will update the rules.

@Suit - All of Europe is welcome to participate!

@Mix - Ends two Fridays from now, so August 7th.

Good luck everyone!

@apesapoppin - you can play IceBreaker online right now for the bonus raffle point if you don't have the game, or find someone to lend it to you within the next 2 weeks to participate in the competitive tracks so you can get a few matches in. It's a pretty good game, you should try it!

Krahsh - that doesn't sound right to me either.

Did you open a dispute ticket at the end of your match or upload a screenshot? Contact fnfsupport@destructoid.com. Premature games/disconnects are the most common way people bail out of losses so you you have to protect yourself in the event they claim it as a win.

As stated in the FAQs, the best way to resolve these things is to run FRAPS and keep an irrefutable record of your games. Its much easier for us to resolve than he said/she said.

also what is prone faking or w/e
Niero's Avatar - Comment posted on 07/26/2009 16:10

It's a known glitch in the game. search 'prone faking' on youtube for dozens of examples. We're asking everyone for help in detecting people that use this exploit -- if we catch anyone on video doing it they're tossed from the tournament, no matter how many kills they have.

@neiro the one legit loss was to rhk ("right hand kid" i think..) I had one game that didn't even start.
I believe hitting the space bar after somebody challenged me caused the private window to pop up and closing it asked for me to submit my score.
I put it as a could not complete.

The third loss was one where the person I challenged was not following the rules, the name was tribex18.
Though in his defense after we quit he read the rules and i believe is playing correctly now.
