Calling all Call of Duty 4 players! It is my pleasure to present $8,300 worth of computer prizes that must be taken away from Destructoid and put into your houses. Here's the best part: You have a chance to win one even if you completely suck and can't win a single fight. Seriously.
Did you get that? This is not your average cybersport chestpumping fragfest. Well, ok, there's some of that, but there's also something here for casual players as well. We listened closely to your feedback regarding our last tournament and have made some changes to the way we're conducting this season.
How to win a PC:
- Start a fight in Call of Duty 4 on the PC, PSN, or 360 -- your choice. (Finals, however, are on PC)
- Casual Track: For each COD4 match you win or lose, you win a raffle ticket. In 3 weeks we will raffle away a $1,300 MAINGEAR PC. You can play as much as you'd like anytime to increase your odds (up to 20 tickets per player). You get +1 bonus ticket (21 max) for playing Icebreaker, our tricky puzzle game.
- Pro Track: The best overall players will be selected to participate in a private semi-final round to win a $5,000 MAINGEAR PC (pictured above) featuring the Intel Core i7 Processor of ultimate awesome.
- Semi-Pro Track: Can't beat the top 4 guys? Try beating as many others as you can! When you beat a player for the first time, you win their unique dog tag. The top 3 dog tag holders and 2nd place player from the Pro Track will compete in private single elimination finals for a $3,000 MAINGEAR PC.
- Tell a friend won't ya? If they suck it's an easy dog tag kill. Note: Playing your pets is cheating.
There's something here for everyone. Hit the jump for the rules, fine print, and all that jazz:
Call of Duty 4 match rules
1v1. Stock classes only. 16 stock maps only (backlot, bloc, bog, Wetwork, District, Ambush, Countdown, crash, crossfire, downpour, overgrown, pipeline, shipment, showdown, strike, and vacant). No variety/add-on packs. No mods. No hacks. No hardcore mode. No faking the prone position. This is considered abusing the in-game mechanics. Teams found abusing this rule are subject to forfeit of the match. Valid proof will need to be submitted after the match is completed. Breaking this rule in the illegal location on Overgrown will result in an automatic forfeit.
Remember, the finals will be on a PC so if you're playing in the Pro or Semi-Pro league start practicing WASD + Mouse!
Zero tolerance anti-cheating policy
A note to all players: Note that you will be kicked if any sort of cheating is suspected on their play record by our admins (we have final say on the matter, period), so leaderboards are only a rough indication of who will be placing. All game results will be reconciled by our FNF team by hand, one by one. Be smart and there's no reason for us to intervene. If you have ANY issue whatsoever, please contact us asap. Do not wait until the tournament is over to ask if X was OK or might be considered cheating, etc. or risk disqualification. By participating in this contest you agree that we reserve the right to throw you out of a moving car by the ear if we think you're trying to ruin it for everyone else. Got it? Good!
Additional FNF software updates coming
Also, please note that we've modified our software to only allow players to play a single opponent or IP address twice in one day. Next week we will disable the ability for top scoring players to choose their own fights and FNF will choose their battles for them, prevening newly registered and amateur players from affecting their score. We have a few new features rolling out shortly as well as we continue learning from our players. We've also heard from a few pro players who disliked that our system invites in the casual crowd, so we hope the new the new prize tracks makes playing more fun for everyone at all skill levels involved. FNF is not just for the beasts, it's for the gaming community at large. We all got into this for the fun of it, did we not? Let's not exclude.
Quake Live Tournament update
The semi-finals games are currently being played in double elimination mode across various global servers, as our players are in different countries to make the lag fair, so it's taking a bit of time to coordinate. We hope to announce the winners sometime next week. (Congratulations to Gahndi on his victory today!).
That's all for now. We hope you'll give it a shot and try your skills. Good luck!
Do I prove it how?
Er... wait. I see. I think.
Even if you lose?
For this, can we play randomers or is it Dtoiders we have to play?
I can record video, but not sound of any matches on my PS3, and I can get images of the wins.
There's a whole lot of questions. Whats the limit that I can send in? What if I do 100 matches? Can I send all 100 wins in? Exactly how do I submit these wins?
Also:
Playstation 3 by the way.
Finished Ice Breaker :] What an addictive game. Well done to whoever made that game, I love it :)
Niero, can I ask how the IP and dispute system will work for consoles? Is all you want from us is to provide screenshots of my wins against anybody in a private match (with those rules obviously)?
Germany, Europe here.
When does the fighting end, like the last day?
@Suit - All of Europe is welcome to participate!
@Mix - Ends two Fridays from now, so August 7th.
Good luck everyone!
Did you open a dispute ticket at the end of your match or upload a screenshot? Contact fnfsupport@destructoid.com. Premature games/disconnects are the most common way people bail out of losses so you you have to protect yourself in the event they claim it as a win.
As stated in the FAQs, the best way to resolve these things is to run FRAPS and keep an irrefutable record of your games. Its much easier for us to resolve than he said/she said.
I believe hitting the space bar after somebody challenged me caused the private window to pop up and closing it asked for me to submit my score.
I put it as a could not complete.
The third loss was one where the person I challenged was not following the rules, the name was tribex18.
Though in his defense after we quit he read the rules and i believe is playing correctly now.
