No one would claim that Will Wright is anything short of a genius, but his current look is a cross between prosthetic-fetishism and turn-of-the-century hobo chic. He seems to be waiting for the invention of hover trains so he can gather his belongings in a lycra bag, attach it to a retractable carbon-fiber baton, and travel the country in search of nano-vittles and robo-hooch.
My Mr. Blackwell impersonation aside -- oh, he WISHES he could come up with something like "robo-hooch" -- Mr. Wright's speech at the recent TED conference is quite compelling. He spoke at length about the importance of "toys" and how it is that he does what he does so well. If you've ever wondered just what makes Will Wright one of the most respected figures in game design, the video above makes an excellent primer.
Oh, and he also shows off Spore, whatever the hell that is ...
I'm just hoping he got jumped by a future bum that stole a time machine and came back to mug Will Wright for his pimp suit. After deciding he couldn't do his presentation in his underwear, Will was forced to put on the future bum clothes and made it just in time to speak.
Either that, or he lost a bet and had to come as effeminate Spock. Someone forgot the pointy ears!
Hover trains already exist they use a repellant element that when covered in liquid oxygen causes it's magnetic poles to be exact equals, when layed ontop of an electromagnetic track it actually hovers above said track as it's being attracted and repelled at the same time with exact amount of force. Using this method trains can run upside down.
nope, i've just talked to him before on numerous occasions so i know him more than the other editors at destructoid. i also watch TEDtalks regularly, and when i saw this one like 4 days ago i sent him a link to it and asked it if he can post it. do you watch TED to? whenever i read articles on destructoid i get this feeling that the destructoid editors are a lot more intellectual than most people on the internet... it's just another reason that destructoid is so much better than all other blogs in the world!
Looks like they've changed a lot of the art assets. Aesthetically its a bit more interesting now.
One of the things that bothers me about Spore is that every part of the game represents a current genre (RTS, CIV, sandbox, etc) but none of them look particularly interesting on their own. The networking aspect definitely is something to take note of but once the novelty of the whole thing wears off, whats left?
Looks interesting but its got that "Will Wrights very personal Black&White downfall"-smell attached to it...sorry Will, no robo change in your cup today

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Destructoid: we focus on important things. Like the cleavage in DMC4 screenshots, and Will Wright's stupid clothes.
Hey Will, go back to the studio and finish the game already.
Nuff said

btw, nex, did fronz send you this video?
What I did find annoying is how he kept saying he was making this game "for kids".
Only the nerdiest of kids will prefer Spore to the latest Naruto, Halo, or Mario game.
Spore will really appeal to sim crazed adults.
At the risk of getting flamed, I don't see why so many people think Will Wright is so great.
Nex make funny, you like?
i can only imagine that the duke nukem guys are cannibalizing each other right now... =)
