Look I drink...
But I am smart enough to know what the difference between the Easter bunny and Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Playstation 3 is; the Easter bunny actually came this year.
The buzz going around the video game watercooler is that MGS4 has been pushed back to March 1st, 2008. To make this clear, this means a marquee PS3 game, that was intended to come out at launch in Spring of 2006 (didn't happen either) will be pushed back almost two full years.
To be fair, Sony (or Konami) has yet to reply with an official statement which is (and "I am guessing of course,") because they are studying historical battles between the Decepticons and the Ewoks.
This was my reason, my push, my desire to finally buy a PS3, and it was squashed. Realistically, you shouldn't get your hopes up that the March 1st date is solid, but I can say it seems to me that a spring window is becoming far more likely.
Anyone up for a game of Duke Nukem Forever while we wait?
[Thanks cjpmedic]
and as for the duke nukem forever, thats how long we have to wait for it. it is predicted the end of the world is 12-21-2012 and i think i read the other day the release date for duke nukem forever is 12-22-2012
E3 is dead... it is not what it was, not even close, and it never will be again. wait for something like TGS, E for all, or hell even PAX.
yay... my news tip made front page
"This is a bad move by Sony. Without another great game lined up in the next 6 months, the system will remain on the waiting list for most gamers"
Sony bashing is fun but please save it for when they deserve. Sony isn't going to delay MGS4, Konami is. Besides, games get delayed all the time (I'm looking at you Nintendo), just it isn't always one that a console depends on.
@BlackDove
[i]"As long as Final Fantasy XIII is on time, the system will do just fine."
Look at the Gamecube. It had many of the best games of the last gen on it and the console still didn't do great. One game cannot save a failing system. Not saying the PS3 is or isn't failing, but while FFXIII will definately boost sales, it will not boost sales a significant amount.
Still, I'm not minding the wait for Super Mario Galaxy either, as long as Miyamoto is supposedly perfecting it. I know that he normally likes to "finish" a game and then add six months of additional development time to tweak and perfect it. More developers should consider doing that.
Lets not forget that in japan this along other companies were upset at Sony because of their price and inability to have a bigger installed base. But with exclusive deals going the way of the dodo this generation is really anything-goes (Wii outselling Bibles and canned peas?)
JUST WOW!!!
do you know how many people will get rid of their PS3 now?!
this PROMISE sold many PS3's!!
How is that bad for anybody?
The difference here is that by the time gamers were slavering for Halo 2, the Xbox already had a huge installed base. Now, we have people waiting to buy the console until the game they want hits. When you don't know what that is, and the installed base doesn't grow in anticipation, it's harder and harder and harder to make money on PS3 exclusives. And if there are no exclusives, there won't be "ten years of future-proof gaming" or whatever the latest Sony Talking Head™ promised.
:offtopic I suppose:
Speaking of delaying, anyone get an Elite yet? I over heard some EB fatties discussing how they all ready had one returned as it would grind the crap outa games......
But Heavenly Sword is in the same boat. Do they have a release date on that game? It was supposed to come out with the Spring launch. I know a lot of games get delayed, but how many games that were supposed to LAUNCH with the system get delayed two year? Maybe they are delaying cus they decided to do a release on bother PS3 and 360, that is everybody's dream at this point isn't it?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
OMG that's a good one. Listen. I'm as big of a Square-Enix fan as they come. Really.
They never do ANYTHING on time.
FFXIII, maybe out in Japan in time for the 2008 holiday season. But it wouldn't shock me to see it in 2009.
FFXIII will probably hit Spring/Summer '08 in Japan and come out in the US in the Fall which is pretty much the standard release schedule at this point. FF games rarely (never?) come out at the end of the year in Japan and they always save them for the holiday season in the US.
As for FFXIII being "on time", the game has never been given a release date, so it can't really be considered late.
If Konomi were smart, they'd take note of the fact that the Wii is now selling about nine times as quickly as the PS3 in Japan (even in the face of huge Wii shortages) and port a version of this game to the Wii with the MGS:Twin Snakes graphics engine.
This wouldn't hurt the sales of the PS3 version. In fact, it might actually help it.
Other than Spiderman 3, there are few head to head comparisons to be made between the PS3 and the Wii graphcis on the same game.
Believe it or not, a lot of casual gamers don't see the big difference between the graphics of PS3 and Wii games. That kind of head to head comparison always drives home which system is "better".
As I recall, Tomb Raider came out on the Saturn first, but looked so much better on the PS1 that it sold far more on that system. It's even considered one of the reasons that the PS1 beat the Saturn, along with Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil.
I'll answer that for you. NEVARZ!
Give me a break. No one rationally could have expected this game to be out this year and I'm fairly certain that ZERO official announcements have come out to even give a release WINDOW for this game.
Kojima doesn't pull this crap, generally. A game's done when he says it's done. I don't think there's much chance he works under a set deadline.
Now, if you want to get mad at Sony for the SCEA games that were slated to come out in "2007" but will likely miss that date, by all means go ahead. But don't get your panties in a bunch over something you should have known anyway.
One final note: If any or several of the big first party Nintendo games that are slated for a "2007" release (SSB:M, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, etc.) get pushed back to next year, will any of you be surprised?
If the answer's "yes," you're an idiot. This is how the game industry works. The "next gen" was never going to be any different.
