WildStar is a new massively multiplayer online game from the folks at NCsoft, and Carbine Studios. So far, it's known that the setting will hinge on sci-fi with a hint of fantasy to it, and not much else.
Attached is the gamescom trailer that debuted the game. In it, we can see that Carbine is aiming for a striking aesthetic that seems influenced not just by some other MMOs, but also from comic and anime sources.
You can sign up for the beta on the game's website. While you're there, you can also check out some of the blog posts that the developers have already posted in relation to the game, as well as more screenshots.
I got pretty excited until I realized it was an MMO.
Seriously, this would have made for a great character-driven single player game. Shame such nice art direction has to be featured in a game genre I'll never really be interested in playing.
Wow totally unexpected. Reminds me a bit of Firefly (naturally). I'm curious as to how this turns out. I'm tired of going though gray and brown dank medieval dungeons for the 37 and one thousandth time.
What is with these people making such interesting/amazing characters and dialog on frickin MMO trailers? Why? This is too good for user created stuff. =/
wow so how much time and money was WASTED on this that could have been used towards making the game
think of that all you stupid fucking gawkers
ya fucking cunts - in the words of a genius, "jim sterling"
It's a great trailer for a Massively Single Player Offline game. Nothing here resembled gameplay, and if they're going to get more than a sigh from me, they need to break the typical MMO mold with this one. But my curiosity is piqued nonetheless.
I would totally watch a TV series and/or movie based off of this. Brings back fond memories of Outlaw Star, actually. No idea how it'll pan out as an MMO, but I have to admit it got me interested.
I thought the same exact thing Gee-Man, I was watching the video and thinking, this is something I definitely want to play, but no way for an MMO, if this was a 360 button masher I would have preordered it already
I'm still kind of mad about Microsoft not showing up to gamescom or Tokyo Game Show last year. It was like going to a party where you expected one of the regulars to show up, but the whole experience just ended up being awkwa...
After sitting out 2012, event organizers have announced that Nintendo will be returning to gamescom in 2013. The Germany-based convention is the largest in the world, with more than 275,000 visitors and 600 exhibitors in 2012...
I have to agree with Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, when he says that "leaderboards are very dead to most people. We've all gotten used to the fact that we're not going to be at the top of leaderboards so they're not re...
Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games, is a very honest and forthcoming man when it comes to talking about the original Joe Danger. One specific thing that has bothered him about the original is the game's level editor, bluntly...
Did you play the original Joe Danger? We gave the racing puzzle platformer a 9 out of 10 when it was first released on PlayStation Network, and then later a perfect 10 when it arrived on Xbox Live Arcade. Great scores, right?...
Wargaming.net's World of Warplanes is currently in closed beta at the moment, with around 700,000 registered users shredding it up in the air combat game. Like World of Tanks, the developers are focusing on keeping the same ...

Wait! Don't immediately dismiss a video about movement in an MMO -- this one is actually enjoyable. Not because the movement in WildStar is anything groundbreaking, but because the developers have injected a healthy dos...more

Player housing is a hot-button issue in MMOs today. Although a handful of MMOs like Ultima Online have allowed players to place housing in the game world, most technical limitations have forced developers to instance housing...more
As people know, I'm a big proponent of a strong endgame content plan for MMOs, even at launch. As I wandered into the WildStar booth at PAX East, I was wondering if Carbine Studios (and publisher NCsoft), had a real plan...more

When NCsoft announced they had formed Carbine Studios way back in 2007, both companies were tight-lipped about what Carbine would actually be working on, aside from it being a new MMO. Almost four years later, Carbine unveiled WildStar at gamescom and PAX, and I was able to sit down and talk with the devs to learn just what WildStar is, and what Carbine is hoping to accomplish with the game.more
