WiiWare Tetris to use Balance Board?

WiiWare Tetris to use Balance Board? photo
     tetris

In an interview with Siliconera, Hudson had this to say when asked about any new features in its upcoming version of Tetris for WiiWare:

It features a number of new rules and items. Currently, we’re tossing around the idea of using the [WiiFit] Balance Board. The game also supports 6-player WiFi battle.

While I am really excited to see developers taking chances with new ways to play classic games (yay, creativity!), I don’t know how well the Balance Board and Tetris go together. Will you move the pieces around by leaning? Could be interesting, I guess. If anything, the idea of me being able to play Tetris with two free hands makes me very happy. My dream of eating an ice cream cone, brushing my hair, and playing a videogame all at the same time could soon be a reality!

What do you think? Is this idea intriguing or just plain odd? What other classic games could get the Balance Board treatment? (Q*Bert!)

It might be a neat extra, but I suspect it would be more frustrating than fun.

Haha, what the hell Cowzilla! I think it's a terrible idea really. Tetris is the best Zen game ever made. There is no need to make it all active when you can just chill our and reflect while half-consciously going through the motions with a dpad.

Wont work, cant work. IIt would be near impossible to play on the faster higher levels. You would lose immediately or else break your legs.

Pokemon with the WiiFit board. Surfing Pikachu mini-game is now Surfing Pikachu: The Game.

Or CARNIVAL GAMES. Hit your WiiFit board with a gigantic hammer to see how strong you are! Hope you weren't planning on ever using it again.

I can only imagine that they're "tossing around" the idea and not "implementing" it because it wouldn't work. I can see how you would move the pieces from left to right, but how do you rotate them?

Couldn't you eat an ice cream cone, brush your hair, and play Wii Fit at the same time? Wii Fit is technically a video game.

Can you rotate them by jumping up and down? Or hopping! Turn it to the left by hopping on your left foot!

First I'd like to see them re-release SMB with motion controls for n00bs, where moving the controller actually does something.

How about WaveRace Wii? You control with the Balance Board. That would be pretty awesome. Then you add online, and it's sweeter.

I'm all for experimentation so long as it's only an option. So in this case, cool. That would be great actually, like chad said, multitask!

So maybe, if your sitting down, pressing harder on the right moves right, hard on the left moves left, tap = rotate?

Obviously I don't know it the board can really be used like this?

You could do simultaneous hair grooming, ice cream, and gaming by taping a Game Boy Micro with WarioWare Twisted to the back of... the ice cream hand, I guess? I wouldn't recommend doing it indoors though, except maybe where you bought the ice cream.

Oh, look -- another random pairing that will be interesting for five seconds until the player realizes a Virtual Console controller works 500x better.

Is there some kind of inverse law partitioning a controller's cost and it's... um, level of control?
