[Editor's Note: Don't listen to the above video with the volume turned up at work. Get out your headphones.]

I've had enough MMOs to last me until the end of my days, and if another one never made it to the PR announcement stage, I'd be perfectly fine with that. I realize this is an insensitive statement to MMO fans everywhere,  but I've never been renowned for my vast sense of tact, so there you have it.

Aussie developer Nnooo, who are responsible for the recent WiiWare game Pop, disagree with me. They are pitching two MMO concepts per their Licenses page, one for an X-Men-themed title and the second for a Pokémon title. As much as I try to avoid the timesink that all MMOs inevitably come with, some old part of me that was once addicted to them stirs: could I exchange Pokémon with my online friends? Engage in epic battles? Destroy someone's Charmander with my Squirtle? (Ahem.)

Of course, it's a pitch, not a reality, but the interesting thing here is more the gamer reaction to it than the reality of whether or not it gets made. What do you guys think? Do you vote it a 'do want', or do you share my grumbly sense of discontent with the overflooded MMO universe?

I'd be all about a Pokemon MMO, but not from the makers of "Pop".

As with most big-profit franchises. I do have to say that I am a bit worried about the concept about a Pokemon MMO. Let's hope that Nintendo won't end up milking the franchise (ex. Pokemon Battle Revolution) and create a fairly good game.

Of course, if they just follow the formula along that of the main games and not those that have been on consoles to date, it should be fairly good and I'll probably have to splurge some wii points into it.

It's about flippin time. A poke'mmo'n (see waht I did thar?) would be huge. If done right I think it has the power to be one of the top mmo's. Of course this is nintendo so it won't happen

This would be a great idea, but I do not think that a WiiWare game would be able to take full advantage of the concept. It would be much better realized as a fully-produced disc game.

And wow, that video brings back memories. Like, of the early days of the internet. I think I still have the original WMV of that AMV somewhere on the hard drive of my dad's obsolete Gateway computer from the late 90s, stored away in the attic.

I personally think a Pokemon MMO would be far to chaotic if there was free PKing, I could see it working, however, if they had set PK or PB (In Pokemon's case) zones with bonuses in battle and certain areas.

It all depends on how it's set up, really.

If this is well implemented I see myself loosing my job and guying Pokemon gold from a chineese farmer.
I mean, this is like my dreamed game.
Imagine you and your firends trying to beat Lugia, one has a Machoke and is tanking him with Karate Chops. The other guy is healing Machoke and you are trying to make as much damage as posible with your Squirtle.
Oh god, i need to change my pants.

It makes too much sense NOT to do. Not that I'm a huge pokemon follower, but having watched the cartoon around the end of the red/blue era, the idea of being competitive in tournaments, adventuring with your pokemans and exploring a large active world for rare pokemon: that's a successful, thriving MMO if I've ever heard of one.

But the problem: on wiiware? Even if its 2D sprite/hand drawn style, an MMO's got to take up a massive amount of space . . .

and from the guys that expected us to pay 700 points for Pop? I just don't know . . .

DO WANT! This idea has been in my head for years. No more "you have to have 3 games to have all the pokemon" bullshit, finally they can just have all the regions in one game, but with real pokemon spawning and such. If Nintendo would give the rights to Blizzard to make this game, I would have sex with each and every person involved.

MMOs for me really depend on the community playing them and I'm not too certain what the pokemon fanbase would be like together online.

Mmmmm, I dunno, they could screw this up royally if this goes down wrong. For example: A WoW-clone with pokemon as your characters would not work. The essence of pokemon is turn based battling and the like. However if say they made double battling more common and used a tactical RPG setup for the battles with different attacks having different ranges and the like I could see it working. Also issue is the whole legendary thing: Do they have them spawn only on a certain day every month for everyone to get one at once? That's the only way I see that working, but then there would have to be tiers of battles so that people with legendaries don't kill everyone else.

The major issue is that any battle system would be completely unbalanced unless there was a point system as for total base stats of your pokemon or something, and your pokemon can't go over that total limit.

If you can't tell I'd be all over this like white on our unhealthy rice.

But a Pokémon MMO is the probably the most perfect mesh of concepts ever. I wouldn't play it, but the way Pokémon functions is absolutely perfect for the MMO genre.

I really think that there is no way for a pokemon MMO. I just can't see it until ninty gets their priorities straight with their online. Until then we will get a slightly better Pokemon Battle Revolution and then a slightly better one than that two years later.

Ninty is too conservative for it.

I don't understand. They did Pop and now want to do 2 MMOs ??? Have they done anything else???

PKMNMMO = my dream since online on consoles emerged.

wouldn't it be awesome if, depending on where you logged in from (ie/ where you live) you would get different pokemon and would therefor have to seek out people from around the world to trade with at like 'trade markets' or something. Also, in game tournaments and wild Pokemon I can see/ real trainers I can CHOOSE to fight = yum!

Knowing how smoothly MMO production goes, even if this does fly with the cats at Nintendo (which it won't), odds are we won't see glimpses of even a beta for years and years.

MMO marketing is always bullshit, just tell me when the damn game is released already!

With wifi and the DS, Pokemon is already a kind of mini-MMO. It's Nintendo's stranglehold on the Pogemanz and draconian rules of online user connections, content, etc, that don't make it easy to see a true MMO come to light.

It would be keen to go to a virtual marketplace and look for trades that's more user friendly than the World Trade Zone. Even with buds in the same room it seems the game goes out of it way to make connecting complicated.

But I could see it, that's what I wished Colosseum would be. An open world with all the regions would be way cool. Having to accomplish certain tasks to get to other regions, good old MMO standard questing stuff. It would be sweet to encounter other (human) trainers in the wild to challenge. There could even be crazy team-ups with 6-on-6 battles against bosses and stuff.

I may well play a well made pokemon MMO, but are Nnooo the people to do it?? I think the clue is in the companies name.

Also, if it came to light, I'm sure the player battles would be well regulated because Nintendo wouldn't want it's younger players picked on.

And finally, it won't happen because as everyone else has said, Nintendo is too backwards to do it.

The Wii's online is too meh to have a good MMO. Maybe it could be a Wii2 launch title(if this next system has at least Xbox live-ish online, an 80GB HDD, and HD). This could be wonderful if it had beautifully detailed high-res sprites(basically Pokemon D/P/Pl HD) instead of meh 3D.

If it was done properly, my life would on launch day.
