Wiimote strikes again! photo

CheapyD, my favorite video game-based Web site operator (Oh god, don't tell Niero! He'll beat me!), has yet another hilarious story about the Wiimote going on a rampage and smashing high-end electronics to bits.

This time, instead of a fancy television, the victim was a laptop, in the prime of its life. It is survived by two kids, and a USB thumb drive.

The incident went down almost exactly like the other one; stupid guy thinks he's too cool for proper Wiimote strap usage, Wiimote disagrees, Wiimote smashes his stuff. I can only imagine the geniuses at Fox News are busily writing up a report on how the Wiimote is a menace and kills 15 kids every week, and if we don't stop this menace, the terrorists have already won somehow!

The DToid staff has already had our Wiimotes surgically implanted in our forearms to prevent slippage, but what about you guys? Do you actually use the strap, or are you a moron only moments away from the loss of a beloved display unit?

Would it work if you had a bag around your hand?

I was playing Wii Sports (tennis) with my girl the night of release. I noticed she wasn't wearing the controller strap. Not a second after I got her to put it on and tighten it did she let the controller fly out of her hand. Not at my beautiful TV - but at my face.

Thank you annoying controller strap for saving my life.

I've only used the strap for Wii Sports. Zelda and COD3 don't really need it imo.

i dont really use it since im only playing zelda at the moment. i dont know about other people but i dont use alot of motion when it comes to it, i calmly just wiggle the mote for sword actions and such forth. nothing too outrageous as to get up and slash maniacly at the screen.

I swear people are posting pictures of broken electronics and blaming it on the Wii. Maybe a subversion campaign from Sony :)

You would have to haul off and throw that thing as hard as possible to do this kind of damage

I try to keep calm when Wiimoting' so I won't smack my wife in the face with it, but now it feels weird playing without it. I can't stand it dangling all over the place as I'm waving it around, so by keeping it strapped to my wrist I don't feel it hanging down.

I only use it for crazy maniac arm plailing stuff like wii sports. Zelda? Trauma Center? don't need it. I'm glad it's there, though, my niece is coming over this weekend snd I can just picture that wiimote turning into a missile.
