Wiimote joystick on Windows update! photo

Update! Someone has responded to the Wiili order and created a demonstration video of just how useless and awkward the Wiimote is on Windows to a newb. With some practice I'm sure this can become the #1 way to surf for porn. Check out the video below -- all jokes aside it's actually pretty interesting stuff. With an expected 4 million consoles in homes by next year and Bluetooth adapters retailing under 10 bucks, we might see one clever PC attempt to embrace a full solution in the box -- a usb Bluetooth adapter and game kit under $50 can happen easily. A Wiimote supported game specifically for the PC is not only plausible, it would be fawking brilliant. The buzz alone would sell the game. Hit the jump for the original article and where to grab the goods.

Carl Keener is a beast.  Not only is he responsible for GlovePie, a programmable input emulator that allows you to utilize speech and boiled cats as joysticks, but he has also reportedly created a fully functional Wiimote Bluetooth driver for Windows as a little add-on to his masterwork ... without actually having a Wiimote! Isn't that something? Now if we could only fix him up with this lady we could have a far more interesting development.

Disclaimer: Australians don't have Wiis yet, so this driver may have some birth defects.  However, Keener believes it should theoretically work because he followed a published input schema to map the controls. If you're curious, there are people experimenting and exchanging notes with him on this forum.

Remember, you'll need a Bluetooth adapter on your computer to attempt this, which you can pick up at Nuevo Huevo for about 20 meseta. If you successfully get this working, let's see some Gates-cringing action! Wiimote Minesweeper!!! Seriously though, it might be wild to try PC FPS on it. Just don't punch your monitor.

awesome, If I had a Wiimote, the USB bluetooth adapter, and will, I would totally try that on Halo, or CS

I highly doubt that the Wii controller would work the way you expect it to. The Wii controller and a computer mouse each work wildly differently and it would be limited to 2 axis' and we aren't entirely sure which ones.

Don't know if anyone else checked out the site but... that dude is kinda a dick. The whole Israel bit is really out of left field. It's like your one stop anti-semite wiimote shop.

-> Ballistic90: According to the site, he developed it so that it maps different wiimote movements to different keys, so moving your view in a shooter could be the x and y axis, throwing a grenade could be the z. You'd just have to be creative with your button mappings.

I'm tracking down his IP address right now for a permaban from IP and forums. What a loser!

It would be nice to see sensor bar support. Using the mouse would be easier then. I dunno that using the Wiimote for windows is all that crazy anyways. If somebody put Wii control support for a PC game why wouldn't they just make it for PC?

Forget the wiimote for the time being.

Playing a FPS with just speech... Thats what i want to be doing. :D

I don't even mind if i can't play well using this method, I just want to try it.

No diagonal movement. How useless - might as well use a joystick as your mouse.
