Wiimote dumbell weights falls under ridiculous Wii accessories you don't need photo

I'm sure riiFlex, the makers of the new Wiimote Dumbells accessory, are fine people and all, but if there was ever a gaming accessory product you absolutely do not need whatsoever, this is it. Designed for use with WiiFit, these dumbells are supposed to make your Wiimote feel more like a dumbell by adding weight in 2lb and 5lb increments.

It's not riiFlex's fault, really -- I can't say I blame them for trying to cash in on the gulliable mothers of the world who would rather buy weighted accessories than an actual pair of normal weights. At any rate, if you utterly disagree with me and think that these are the best thing since the invention of the wheel, you can go preorder them here with a $5 deposit. The final price is yet to be determined, but I'm sure if you don't already own a pair they could be handy for throwing at intruders or something.

Actually if you are hardcore into WiiFit, those might be interesting for you.

...Wow.

I'm sure whoever thought of this thought absolutely NOTHING of the idea that heavily weighted wiimotes would fatigue you ingame far faster and probably add more risk to the wrist movements you invariably make with a wiimote.

John: Actually, didn't a woman nearly kill her dog by smacking it in the head with the Wiimote while bowling a little while ago? Sure, it'll be easier now, but..

I've tried to use my 5lb dumbbell plus the remote with the tricep whatever, and it didn't really like that (not to mention the awkward positioning of having both in one hand). Given how regular dumbbells cost some money, I can't see these being cheap even as a "useless gimmick addon" like the cooking set and the sports set. *sighs*

I'll buy these if they're cheap enough.

For some reason, the idea of training at 100x Earth's gravity comes to mind.

This is ridiculous. I don't want to sound like the people who say "play a real guitar, you Guitar Hero fans" and end up looking like a douche, but...do some actual working out! WiiFit is not worth these kinds of accessories!

Actually, take out the Wii Fit correlation and we might have something here. It would turn attacking in Twilight Princess into a form of muscle training, and trying to hold up 5 pounds the entire time you're playing an FPS and pointing at the screen could make you pretty strong

I can honestly say that 99.999% of all Wiimote add-ons are completely useless. Except the Lightsabers. Those are cool. :D

This one doesn't look like any sort of exception. And they'll probably retail at around $20 - $30 a set, I'd wager. 'Tis silly.

Actually, the additional weight would be perfect for the forearm lifting exercise. The trainer even suggests to use a bottle of water for more weight. Considering that the exercise is based on the position of the Wiimote before and after the arm stretch, these weights will actually help to add the additional weight.

The only catch is ... that's the only exercise in Wii Fit that will really benefit from them, unless you want to run with the weights while doing the Island Run.

The Nyko Perfect Shot is actually pretty sweet. But this...I don't know, if it helps Americans exercise, even a little, then I guess its kind of OK?
