It was just recently that legendary BAFTA winner Will Wright was declaring the Wii a superior platform for development, and it looks like he's a man of his word as it's been announced that Spore is coming to that very platform.
For those living under a rock, Spore is an upcoming PC game in which you evolve a species from its tiniest cellular incarnation to an entire space travelling population. Aside from being a game by Wright, the title has generated a lot of excitement for its increasing sense of scale and ambition, as well as the promised customization and the all-important feeling of Godlike power that the player will be imbued with.
"The only next gen system I've seen is the Wii--the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement," explained the icon. "The Wii feels like a major jump -- not that the graphics are more powerful, but that it hits a completely different demographic. In some sense I see the Wii as the most significant thing that's happened, at least on the console side, in quite a while."
Spore is coming to the PC in Q2 of 2008, Thus far, there has been no further details on a release date for the Wii version, or what changes will be involved. Destructoid shall, of course, keep you posted.

We as gamers would obviously be delighted to play Spore on our console of choice. But with Proper marketing (something EA is capable of) it could be a console success.

I use to have respect for Mr. Wright. I havn't seen anything great on the Wii. The controls are not that accurate, its the same nastogic characters doing the same actions. Mr. Wright just jumped on the money train.
Next, you havent given gamers their due. They got The Sims, and Spore seems to be a natural progression of that. We'll get it, even if you don't.
As for Johnggernaut.....HAHAHAHAHAHA! Noob. He didn't say say better, he said more innovative. Theres no arguing the fact that the Wii is the most original of the 3 new consoles. Suck it up, Fanboy, Wright is a creative mastermind.

Yes, the Wii is unique with its hardware. I wouldn't call it innovative, because the mouse is more accurate then the Wiimote. Also, the games all consist of minigames. The attach rate on the system is horrible, which means people bought because it looked unique then became dissapointed with the minor selection of games.

I tried it at gamestop. Honestly I would have rather have Prime on the 360 will traditional controls and updated graphics.
I would trade the Wiimote for better graphics/traditional controls anyday. Go play DBZ for the Wii. Its fucking stupid trying to play that game with a Wiimote. Shit, most people I talk to say they use a old cube controller for it. Innovative my ass!

Will is out to make money. Look at the Sims. You see how popular it was with the casual audience? Will knows most casual gamers own a Wii and that is where the money is at. Im not a fanboy. I own all of the consoles thats isd why I have room to talk.

The Wii goes in a completely different direction with its control scheme and interactivity. Doesn't make the other systems bad per say, but the Wii is the only one that really innovates anything.

For the record, a console selling more does in fact make it better. The more it sells, the more support it gets from publishers, the more games come out, the more things worth buying come out.
And that doesn't work for halo 3. My only hope is that the orange box will finally make insane halo fanatics realise just how bloody generic the halo series is.
Halo has a 100000x better multiplayer. Halo is far from generic.
Team Fortress 2 uses class restrictions and weaknesses to create a multiplayer game that encourages team-play and communication as well as personal skill. The art direction is literally one-of-a-kind, and the game is chock full of personality.
As a result, Team Fortress 2 has a greater multiplayer experience than Halo.
Do you see how I just made my opinion into a fact? You're not the only one who can do it!

Hopefully the user-created universe aspect will be cross platform... It'd be awesome to share content with gamers on PC, Wii, DS, 360, PS3, PSP, and whatever other systems the game eventually comes to.

That said, back to the topic at hand. Spore is awesome and it's coming to several consoles I own. And yes, it is coming. You fuckers aren't being clever by saying "OMFG IT R TEH DUKE NUKEMS" over and over. They're not re-building the game from the ground up, they delayed it, like...twice. Fuck-a-doodle-doo. Have you considered that they might want to take time to make it, you know, good?

Well, his insinuation was that it was better. Apparently to Will Wright innovation is better, no matter how crappy the games are. Red Steel? The game to use the wiimote as a sword for the first time? pfft. Not a fanboy, I wanted to get a wii the other day when they had 'em in. But only because I'm the guy that wants all the systems because every system has at least 5 good games (sans PS3, I just like Blu-Ray).
My point was really that the wii is innovative but it hasn't shown me that it exceeds the other systems in any way worth mentioning. To call wii next generation and ps3 and 360 just a little upgrade of last gen is to be ignorant. But I'll still buy Spore, it's gonna kick ass! lol
I guess the definition of gamer has moved away from me.
