Nintendo has confirmed to Kotaku that, as much as it tries, it's still struggling to embrace the world of online gaming. Only a "select" number of Wii U games will support voice chat in multiplayer, and there are currently no plans for an official headset.

Although the Wii U GamePad contains a microphone, it will not be compatible with voice chat. Anybody who wants to talk to players will need to use a third-party headset (Nintendo recommends Turtle Beach or Mad Catz), which will work when plugged into the 'Pad's headphone jack. The Pro Controller does not have a jack, so won't work with any headset.

Games confirmed to support this rather crippled option are Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Assassin's Creed III, and Mass Effect 3

Voice chat has never attracted me too much, so I'm not broken up over this. However, it's certainly indicative of Nintendo's continued struggle against modern expectations, as it still finds itself unable to serve otherwise standard features in a standard, or efficient, way.

Expect severed heads and stabbed necks in this Assassin's Creed Unity trailer

Just in time for Bastille Day, Assassin's Creed Unity comes dropping down from the shadows to provide a new glimpse at its take on the French Revolution. Apparently, these aren't exactly civil affairs, so a suitable amount of inspired violence is on display. As the trailer points out, there's no justice unless someone fights for it.more

Video: Ubisoft is now luring consumers into pre-orders with gambling

Ubisoft has launched a new tactic for netting pre-orders for Assassin's Creed: Unity in the form of a digital slot machine. Pre-order customers gain 5 free spins every Friday, and prizes include everything from in-game content to a trip to Paris. While participants pay no actual money to play, using gambling as a way to attract customers still feels a bit sleazy. more
