Pretty much. If you can tell where the magnetic north is all the time, it makes 3D orientation easier.

Veeerrrry interesting if they use it for this and not just a compass.

Magnetometers detect whenever Magneto is close, duh. I hope the implement instant video chat with one of the X-Men if Magneti should one prowling about looking to steal your silverware.
